when you turn on the tv, all i get at first is a one inch horizontal picture(squished) sound is ok, after a minute or so the picture will be ok except the lower part of the picture 1 inch is folding and jittery, i replaced the vertical output amp ic NTE7188 , but i think its a leaky cap somewhere.........

Have you checked the capacitors in the immediate vicinity of the vertical IC.
I would especially look for capacitors that are bulging on the top.
Also i would use the original output ic, NTE crosses are not 100 percent reliable when you have fold over issues.

the whole board needs to be checked .as its the problem of overheated or burned ic and not the leaky capacitors .

ic401 will be  shorted it takes la78041. But it also had two shorted diodes #30b,which crosses to a nte7188.
,which in your  case needed 2 caps c421 4.7/50v and c427 100/35v . change both at same time. also in my search of the board c402 4.6 /160v had been puffed up either from the i.c. shorting or another potential problem so change while you are in there as well as resoldering the whole vertical/ horizontal circuit board.

it could be because of any component getting overheated on the main board.as they gets faulty due to overheat so its needs comple checking by a professional as they have replacement spare parts ready at their work shop and the exact fault can be acquired.
