My maxtor basics has just blown the house trip switch and now cannot be recognized on my vista pc although power light etc all on

I would imagine the PSU has suffered some sort of fault that not only took the trip out in your house, but may have fried some of the electronics on the other end of the transformer. I'd suggest returning it under warranty to Maxtor.

Can't retreive any info from my maxator green

Good day sir/maam, I had the same problem with my generic external drive, keeps blinking but cant be recognized by the PC. chances are the Maxtor is done, you can salvage the Hard disk inside. Visit your dealer if its under warantee demand for a replacement they may also have service people to take a look at the drive. hope this helps

Maxtor Basics 320 GB external harddrive cant be recognized

There's a good chance the shop you bought the drive from didn't have SP3 installed. For some reason, SP3 has an issue with USB peripheral devices. Windows has created a patch to rectify the problem. Click on the link below and install the "Fixit" patch to enable your PC to recognize your HD. Best of luck.

Sounds like you lost the drivers for your external. W/ out an online PC you cannot download them either. Do you have a friend that could do this on their PC? That is the only way.

I have a maxtor basics desktop hard drive and when i plug it in and connect the usb the pc does not recognize it... what's wrong?

Are you attempting to detect new hardware? A lot of times you need to go into the control panel and run the hardware detection wizard.

Alternatively, you can check Maxtor's website and see if a special driver is needed, and install that, then detect hardware.

The last solution I have is to leave it plugged in and reboot your computer. Windows will do an auto detect upon log in, and might be able to find it that way.

My pc dose not come up my maxtor basics external desktop hard drive

What OS are you using? Windows 98SE does not always recognize exterrnal hard drives. Try the external HD on a computer running Windows XP and see if that works. If it works on WinXP and not Win98SE or possibly WinME the External HD is good.
