Question about GE Monogram ZISx420DR 42-inch Side by Side Panel Ready Built-In Refrigerator with Dispenser

48" side by side Monogram center between doors getting very hot

I have never noticed this, the center separation between the refrigerator and freezer is very hot the entire length of the unit from top to bottom. The freezer is not freezing the way it used to and I have had to raise the temperature. This is a stainless steel unit side by side about 7 or 8 years old. I am very concerned about how hot the center is.

This problem is due to low or no air flow aross the condenser coil on your refrigerator. according to sthe model number you listed I'm assuming this is a bult in unit so the condenser coils are going to be on top of the unit. Here are the steps to check and possibly repair your unit:

  • Open compartment cover on top.
  • check and clean the coils that will be exposed, you can either vacum or blow them out with compressed air depending on how dirty they are
  • there is also a fan that cools this coil, check that it is running. this is probably why it is getting so hot in center post and freezer isnt doing good.
if the motor is bad you can position a regular house fan blowing into the motor compartment and it will get everything back to normal until the unit is repaired.
Fyi: there is a hot gas freon line that runs between the doors that controls exterior unit moisture and when there is poor or no air flow across the condenser coil it causes this area to get extremely hot. There is no fire hazzard tho.
If I can be of further assistance please ask. Thanks Peyton

The refrigerator side has sweat running down the side of wall next to the freezer forming water in the bottom. the temperture goes between 41% to 48%. the food spoils. what is wrong?

Without a model number, I could only guess that the automatic damper door that lets cold air in from the freezer section is broken, frozen shut, or just not operational. The refrigerator receives it's cold air from the freezer section. If the freezer is operating correctly, I would asume the damper door is not functioning. Pleazer Appliance...

GE Monogram refrigerator does not cool. The fan on top was loose and not spinning. I fixed that, and it now spins properly, but he freezer and frig will not cool at all.

I need you to pull away from wall and remove cover over compressor and feel compressor for heat. If too hot to hold hand there or if warm or just cool. Tell me what you find. I would like to help you solve this if you like. Sea Breeze
