The "MAX" line indicates how much liquid must be in the blue dispenser cup before it DISPENSES from the bottom of the cup. This is a very, very frustrating mistake that gives owners much grief. After three months of incorrect type of detergent or incorrect amount of the correct detergent used--musty odor begins to occur.
After
more than two years--a significant amount of soap ****/curd has
accumulated in the washer. Odor-causing bacteria flourishes on this
build-up. It is imperative to remove this slimy residue. Tide sells a product called "TIDE WASHING MACHINE CLEANER" which is very effective.

Most notably, this problem is compounded by not leaving the door open between uses to allow the tub to air out and/or something clogged in the drain pump reservior.
The following link explains how to access and clean out the drain pump (if required):
If you are not using HE detergent you could be causing the build up of soap scum which can also cause odors. In addition, if you don't use hot water cycles regularly, you may not be sanitizing the drum enough. I personally own a front loader such as yours and have never had a problem with odors or mildew by following the regiment I have outlined. If you have any questions, please post back and let me know. I hope you find this information helpful.
You need to clean your filters and pump out, after which, you need to flush the system with white vinegar and water 50:50 make up a bucket of solution, and after cleaning all the lines pump, and filters, put the solution in the bowl, and run the short cycle to push the water through, this should help. You need to wash all parts in same type solution or bleach.
what kind of washer? all front load washers get this issue the way to get rid of the smell is by doing an acid wash to your machine set the washer to the highest temp setting (sanitize would be best) mix in 1/2 to 2/3 cup of javex or white vinigar, either one will do it run your washer through the longest cycle possible with no clothes in it may need to be done more than once. and up to once a month
the smell is caused by leftover detergent and leftover fabric softner gathering on the interior shell and in the rubber boot at the door. front load washers do not require much detergent at all, and even less fabric softner. be careful on how much of these you are using, more is not better this will help prevent the odor from comming back as well when laundry is not being done, the front door should be left open a bit to allow air movement in the washer. hope this helps
Run a wash on the highest temperature, and add some vinegar into it. May do this more than one time. Be strict to wash on the higest temp some times in the month.
I'll give it a try. Thanks!
