Sounds like a corrupted Operating System, could be caused from a faulty Storage device/HDD your only option here is usually to restore to factory defaults. If you have a backup of your machine you could try doing a restore from the backup otherwise there is a way to boot into your Operating System and perform a factory reset which will reinstall the OS onto the device. (fair warning, this will delete all the data you have currently saved on the machine)

Probably, the new operating system cannot recognize your Seagate external hard drive. You can connect the Seagate external hard drive to another computer to copy data to another device. If the problem still exists, you might need to perform data recovery. My hard drive is blinking

If this is an USB external hard drive the try connecting it to another computer.
If it does not work then the hard drive is faulty. All hard drives will eventually fail.
There is no way of fixing this hard drive, if you need to recover your data, then there are companies that can recover data off faulty hard drives BUT it will cost you an arm and a leg for their services.

My Iomega 1tb drive now only shows invalid shortcuts instead of the directories to my 800 gb of data please help!

first, recover your files with data recovery program like asoftech data recovery program.
http://www.geardownload.com/system/asoftech-data-recovery.html

I've had to use it many times in the past but in this case you need to plug that drive into another system as an external drive or slave drive and run the software from there. It will rebuild the drive and hopefully recover the files.

After you get back your files, you can then format the drive.

My portable toshiba 500GB HD drive cant be detected by the computer. You hear the click sound my times like its trying to access it but nothing shows. Also the light is blinking.

That's the click of death - the actual hard disk inside the drive is damaged. The disk is dead, unfixable. Either just buy a complete new unit or dismantle it and replace the actual hard disk with a new one.
