Motherboards have connections on both sides. One last resort you can try. Since you opened it up to look at it take a house hold fan and let it blow on it for a while. Also remove the battery and check the contacts. Remove all removable components and try to let it dry out.

For next time if this happens again immediately shut it down (holding in the power button for 6 seconds) and then let it dy out for a good day with a fan blowing on it. I saved my 9 year ols laptop this way.

Your best bet is to bring your laptop in to either the manufacturer or a repair shop so that they can see if the motherboard is fried. It doesn't neccessarily have to smell or show burns to do this. Good Luck.

IBM ThinkPad T40, when connected to docking station the laptop will randomly stop working with USB connected items like mouse, keyboard, printer all connected to USB ports on docking station.

Try a power adapter with more amperage. When you connect a dock, the 3 amp adapter that comes with IBM laptops will not have enough power for lots of add-ons. You'll need the 4 amp adapter.

Lenovo thinkpad plugged in not charging is there a problem

laptop plugged in not charging:

1. Take the battery out of the laptop & try to turn on the laptop using power adapter only. If the computer turns on, then the battery is defective & needs to be replaced.

2. Make sure the IBM ThinkPad X40 power adapter is not defective. Test the output voltage of the power adapter using a voltmeter. Compare the voltmeter reading to the nominal value written on the adapter or the laptop.

3. Make sure the DC jack is not loose or broken. A loose DC jack will need to be re-soldered. A broken one will need to be replaced.

4. If you have another processor which is compatible with your laptop's model, try swapping processors & test to see if the laptop will work.

5. The power button could be bad

6. The motherboard could be defective & needs to be replaced.

I have a toshiba LT a205; the LED flashes 6x; what does that mean? the psu is rated at 19vdc, and puts out 18.5 vdc. The end of the power connector that goes to the mb only has 0.5 vdc on it, so I'm...

19volts is a nominal value. The AC Adapter will be fine from 18 volts up to 20volts because the power unit on the motherboard regulates the voltages very accurately.
You say you only have 0,5volts on the Mother Board power input. There's your fault. Between the Mother Board socket and the AC Adapter.
Replace the AC Adapter or Laptop Connection lead if you mean there is 0.5volts actually on the Mother Board but full oiutput from the Adapter.

Lg-ibm laptop no power

Check your AC Adapter then remove the laptop battery and try from the adapter. If it has no signs of life, you have a motherboard/psu fault. It is too complicated to go into how to repair it at this stage. Consult a dealer.
Hope this helps.

My toshiba l300 can't even power.the led lights are not coming on.i have tasted the charger and it's working

When you connect the power adapter into the laptop, does the power LED light up? If not then -
The battery adapter or the adapter's power lead or the laptop's power socket could be faulty.
Check power adapter’s DC plug that connects into the laptop power socket with a multi-meter, the voltage should be slightly higher than the voltage that is printed on the label on the bottom of the adapter. If the voltage is zero or way below the voltage that is printed on the label then the power adapter is faulty and needs to be replaced.
If the adapter is OK then connect it to the laptop and power it up, then look at the power/battery charging LED light and wriggle the power plug in the laptop's power socket. If the power/battery LED light flashes and in a certain position this LED light stays firm, then the power socket is either faulty or it has a dry solder joint where it is connected to the motherboard.
This can be repaired but it requires the laptop to be completely dismantled to get at this power socket and repair. If you cannot DIY then I suggest you get a quote first.

My Compaq Pres V2000 laptop does not get on with power on switch

Take out the battery and only hook up the AC Adapter to see if the laptop turns on. If it does then you know the battery is shorting out the laptop and either has very little power to turn on the laptop or is shorting out the laptop cause its bad.

If you don't get the laptop to turn on, make sure your using a well known working wall outlet to plug the laptop to and only use the AC Adapter. If you AC Adapter is hooked up and the Green Led turns on then you know the adapter is good.

After those two steps, you can also try taking out the dvd drive and the hard drive. Then try turning on the laptop and if the laptop still doesn't turn on then the motherboard is bad in the laptop.

IBM thinkpad will not turn on ...had been used for 2 hous earlier..could heat have been the problem

Could have been a power surge that affected it by try a few things to be sure:

unhook the battery and only have the ac adapter hooked up. If you have a green light on the ac adapter then you know your getting power from that.

Try turning on the laptop and if you still get nothing then the motherboard is definitely bad.

Power connector of T40 think pad loosen

If you can't charge the battery and you know the battery is good, hook up just the ac adapter to verify that the laptop can turn on without the battery hooked up and if your laptop turns on then you know both are good.

At that point I would say since its not charging then it could be that the dc jack has some bad solder points on the bottom of it and need to be resoldered. Sometimes if the solder goes dry and cracks just a bit if can cause the adapter not to charge the battery.

If that doesnt fix the problem the the motheboard is bad and would need to be replaced.

My ibm laptop contionusly beeps and says power scource is battery, when i press esc, it boots normally and shuts down in about 15 mins to half an hour

Either:
A. Bad battery
Or
B Bad power supply.

Sounds like the battery isnt charging correctly , the beeping is warning you it is running out of power.

Take the battery out , and boot normally with the ac adapter.

Does it work?

If yes, Get new battery. about 70-90 dollars.

If no. Get new ac adapter. 20-40 dollars.

Ibm thinkpad no power with ac power adapter but works with battery

If prior to this it works intermittently with the AC adapter, it means the connection from the adapter power unit to the motherboard was lost and this is a typical problem with the Thinkpad. It needs a re-soldering job and not something that one can do without a proper repair manual on how to open the laptop. Try googling your problem and find out if someone has the same experience and managed to resolder by him/herself.
