The camera works fine but I keep losing the Mike. it seems that everytime I get any kind of update on my PC that my mike just quits. I like the camera and mike combo but this constant lack of mike is frustrating and I realy need help on this

Sorry Bud but I have done all the obvious things and they don't work. I finally removed all the Logitech software from the PC, plugged in the camera and let Windows identify is as a USB Device. It now works fine in all applications but, without the Logitech software, I can't use the camera "Follow Me" motor function or access any of the other Logitech menus. Ergo, back to my original question, does anyone know how to make a Logitech Sphere AF webcam immune to disabling updates or better yet, does anyone know which update causes the Logitech mike function to be disabled?. Please let me know, it's driving me nuts.

Try use the SKYPE options, setup.
That will step through checking and setting up the camera and microphone FOR SKYPE.
You need to set up you equipment for SKYPE.

Also check the microphone levels for your camera by right click the volume control, call up properties and select audio, make sure your camera is listed as the "recording device" and the same in "voice"

Now close the boxes and right click on volume control again this time select "open volume control" make sure "microphone" is in the list.

whilst there select "properties" then tick "recording then OK

Make sure there is a tick in "microphone here too this is important.
move the slider to about 3/4 up

If there is an "advanced" button under microphone then click it the tone controls may be greyed out but try putting a tick in the "mic boost" and close any boxes that are open

You should be ready to try SKYPE again you may have to make some small alterations to the recording level and the volume level for the microphone (they are two separate things as you have just seen) but yo should be good to go

Each program has Options that have to be setup in order for the Audio and Video to function properly.

After downloading and installing Skype (http://www.skype.com/intl/en-gb/download/skype/windows/beta/downloading/ ) set it up as follows:

  1. Go to Tools, then Options, and click on Audio Settings and set the Microphone and Speakers to the computer Audio Card.
  2. Then click on the Video Settings.
  3. The camera if Installed Properly will come up and show a video picture.
  4. Then, on the bottom of the page click on Save.

The camera and audio should function properly. Your friends and Family will now be able to see and her to you.

B. Yahoo Setup:

After downloading and installing Yahoo Messenger (http://www.soft32.com/download_30.html ) set it up as follows:

  1. Go to Messenger at the top left and click on it.
  2. Next go down to Preferences and click on it.
  3. Next Calling and Devices on the right and set the Microphone and Speakers to the computer Audio Card.
  4. Next go to the Test Audio section and (in blue writing) click on “Open the call setup assistant” and follow the instructions on the left window.
Hope this helps. Bud

I've attached an external mike to the canon hv 30 but the audio levels are very low. I've tried increasing them as per the manual's instructions but still not as responsive as the shotgun mike. could it be...

what kind of mike are you plugging in?. Some cams will use crystal mikes...some use dynamic....some use a mike with a pre-amp built into the mike.(condenser mike) Also you must match or at least come close to the impedance required by the camera. The hv30 requires a condenser microphone. Check with radio shack or some electronic store.

W300i speaker stopped working, other side cannot hear my voice

Hi, my w300i speaker (mike) stopped working, my voice cannot be heard on the other side, but, when I connect the handsfree, things become fine.

Seems, the internal mike has got a problem, please suggest a remedy?

is it mandatory to get the mike changed, something similar had happened a year back and that time, they had said, that since the mike is a part of the board, the entire circuit board needs to get replaced.

Any idea, how much the board (circuit) will cost in Mumbai, India?

Problem with my camera

hey mike.

it may be driver problem. look for an updated driver by 1. going to windows update website and do a manual update and look for a new driver for your camera or even better, 2. check toshiba's website's knowledge base for solution if there's a specific fix from toshiba or a possible update for your driver. (i was trying to do that for you but the website is currently down 11-7-08 at 12:33am) http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/home.jsp?nav=Product%20Support give a try hopefully you will have better look due to timing.

check also device manager and find the status of the device and post back with your findings on that device.

lastly.. you way have to give him a call, some problems are hardware related and if your product is still withing warranty you may need to send them your laptop for them to have the issue corrected or the laptop replaced.

DCS-1000w through Dlink DIR-655 router

These cameras are touchy. Hold the reset button on the back in for about 20-30 seconds. Bring up the CD software you got with the camera, it should spot the camera right off and you can configure. That seems to be the only way I can communicate with this model. After setup, then browsers, etc seem to work fine. I would also download the latest Firmware and update.

The date time problem ist he internal battery[ A watch type button inside the camera body]
has worn out- replacing it will be a workshop job.
The other problem seems like wear and tear on the switch any repair will be costly.
Just live with[out]it- or buy a new camera

Mic troubles

Most shotgun mikes are only going to provide a mono output. In some cases there are two internal pick ups and the output would be stereo. A good example of this would be the Audio Technica AT822 which almost looks like two mikes joined together. I have a Sennheiser MKE300 and I modified the plug in order for the signal to be fed to both channels (double mono) I'm not familiar with your Sony mike and I would think that it would feed both channels, either as stereo or double mono, but perhaps it is not designed to do so. And being a hot shoe connection it wouldn't be possible to alter it until the editing stage. However, having said all that, the other problems you describe indicate a faulty mike. The low signal level indicates a lack of power to the mike, which in your case should be provided by the camera (unless there is a place for a battery in the mike, but I doubt it). I don't think it should be tinny either. I have had some issues with my Sennheiser picking up too much camera noise and handling noise but the audio of the subject is quite good. So, if you want a suggestion ... Take the Sony mike back - if you can. Buy a good quality shotgun (not the Sennheiser MKE300!) that has a standard plug on it (XLR or 3.5mm). Buy an external recording device (I use a minidisc and/or an Edirol R-1) This will give you greater control over mike placement and provide redundancy ( I recently recorded a wedding with a broken mike cable -I didn't find out until the editing stage that the camera hadn't recorded usable audio)
