I have an old solo 5300 laptop from college. I'm trying to restore to original settings, however, when I insert System Restoration Kit Disc 2 (version 98 rev. 1.2) and reboot, select Install Windows, says it's Preparing my computer for install of windows >follow prompts for installation wizard then screen goes black (but power still on)...and doesn't come back on. I'm a bit computer illiterate - any assistance you could provide would be greatly appreciated! (And the tech people @ Gateway say they won't help b/c I'm out of warranty.) Thanks!

Try removing batteries from the remote, pressing all buttons to unstick a stuck buttton, reinstalling batteries, and testing operation. Also, something may have gone wrong when you were setting the remote to control your TV. If no corrective action works, the remote may have failed prematurely.

Hi. Not enough information. Do you want a switch? Do you need to FIND a switch? Is it a Gateway notebook? The specifications for the Gateway Solo 5300 do not indicate a wireless system as part of the original unit. See: http://support.gateway.com/s/manlib/Notebooks/Solo5300/8508144/8508144.htm
Most units with PC100 memory (like this one) did not come with wireless. You will likely need a wireless PCMCIA card.
i think u delete some windows files or u install some other version of internet explorer and u remove it after that thets why it created a problem ..NO problem if u know how to restore a window then restore it else just goto to star menu and click on explorer i am sure it will open but after restoring window...
Hi, I can help you with this. Do you have a wireless router? Do you have DSL or cable modem? If you would like to chat online about it, I can walk you through a few things to try. There isn't enough information here in your problem description to solve it without talking to you in some way. I could also do a phone call if you don't have two machines at home. Let me know if you would like to do that. Thank you.
