Question about Philips Magnavox 9P6034C 60" Rear Projection Television

Projection picture problem

I have a 60" Philips 9P6034C Projection tv that is about 5 years old. When I turn it on, the picture is small and oval shaped until after a few minutes then it will fill up the screen to normal size and shape. Sometimes it will oscillate from big to little size depending on the amount of light that is transmitted. ie.; a bright picture will shrink and a dark picture will return to full screen. Please can you tell me what component to change and where to get it?

Update on my problem: When I unplug the power cord and plug it back in it has a black screen for a good while then a little oval red screen and after it warms up 30 min. it pops in and out of a normal screen with good color and alignment. It is almost like the CRT's aren't getting enough power. Thanks

If you have no sound or video or if your screen keeps shrinking and expanding its typicaly the opto chip. You can get the chip and repair instructions from www.magnavoxhelp.com . This is a fairly common problem.

I had the same problem for about 3 - 4 months, one day it just stop working, not even that shrinked image. I called a service center recommended by the manufacturer and they took the TV with them. They told me the TV was damaged by lightning. I have my doubts but curious thing is that at the same time I also had problems with a smaller TV. After two months they brought it back. I paid 843 USD and it is working good. They replaced the main board, signal board and power supply. A total of 579.95 USD just in parts. This repair was too expensive considering I initially paid 1800 USD for the TV back in 2000. Next time I just going to replace the thing.

Problem with the Philips Magnavox 9P6034C 60 in. Rear Projection Television, had TV for 16 years. Picture gradually got darker and less clairity

the projection tubes do wear out over time and there is no fix but to replace them. you might first check to make sure the lenses and mirror are clean, do not use compressed air to clean as you may force dust between the lenses. if the picture is darker at the edges or a different hue then the coolant is likely contaminated and needs changed

Probably a voltage regulator problem. It's not something you can fix yourself unfortunately

The convergence board is bad if you cannot adjust, using your customer control through the menu. Also known as the small signal board.......Take your glasses off take two aspirins and see a tech in the morning!

Sounds like your regulator ic is about to go, not an expensive repair but you have a good thought about buying a new set. If your fluid has never been changed I bet it's due also. Give the choice serious thought.

A 10 year old Rear Projection tv is usually at the end of its life. No such thing as "fluid". Best advice, get a new TV.

What are they talking about when they say you need to change the fuild in your tv. I have 60" philips magnvox that is about 10 years old

The projection TV sets have a coolant that surrounds the CRT picture tubes. It is used to keep them cool when they are lit up. After 5 or so years the fluid gets cloudy and needs to be drained and replaced. If you do it correcly your set will have the best picture you have seen in a long time. Check with the site www.TvRepairKits.com for the fluid and a photo instruction guide.
