It looks like a cap, there should be markings on it, you may need a magnifying glass to read it. Best bet to find a new one will probably be e-bay, unless you can find an actual electronics part house. Radioshack has decreased their components sections, so they will only have standard values available. I am going to assume this was on a circuit board, so you will need to solder it in place.

I assumed it was a cap and tested as such. It reads 222J
It came out of a JL audio amp that a buddy gave me an said was bad. The "cap" tested 225. I think it's good and just had a crappy connection an I can resauder it. Sound right? I'm an electrician, not a electronics guy...

Samsung tv will not turn on Red light flashes sometimes but tv will not turn on. Help

About 3 til 5 years old is to short life, its still years the same problem in 80% in this case its not a good idea to replace power supply prints or other prints where bad capacitors are to find because its should again give you not more lifetime , what there must be happens is that someone in your Country will replace ALL electrolitic capacitors that have brands like JH x luxon lelon and much other korean made capacitors / some of then are bulged convex topped and or they have leakage , replace with good size fitting capacitors that are about 10-16 volt higher with the same capacity so the tolerance is bigger because Samsung is have a very good build up with good prints to replace components to do it yourself or for somebody else to do for you , A capacity measure tool to have is not easy because the most of them the sheap ones have not a (no-lie) measure technik and some of the capacitors are damaged (part that its get not on the right time its self healing capacity . Good Capacitors to replace are Jamicon , Nichicon , Frako Philips , Elna ,Nippon chemicon. Bc , Rubycon, Roederstein the youtube is a suggestion on model
There are sometimes 3 watt green colored resistors with faultering endcaps in some models replace them with new resistors to prevent your components look good for brown spots on some components resoldering them a few Vishay resistors are good enough for replacement metalfilms in powersupply if the green ones are present (fuse-resistors ) are higher placed then the other resistors.. look some Samsung repairs on youtube.

Its going on now about for years with this Samsung capacitor challenge from about 2002 its a phenomenon in much more Brands of electronic products and computer mainboards.

Between 2 and 5 years are the most capacitors in Samsung deformed. Succes with the project.

Our tv has sound but no picture. Its not totally black but you cant see anything. I think its the backlight inverter but im not sure where its located.

Or only a fuse resistor of the backlight inverter but in most cases capacitors faled in self-healing because of the to tight tolerace in volts choice of korean capacitor that will be bulged leaking or convex topped , but also the supression-coils that are not good cleaned before soldered in the factory if its older Fujistu Siemens or Acer models with the separate power supply , not the real great models.
the most flat panels television have almost every where bad capacitors in between 3 and 5 years of age and Samsung has the top in bulged capacitor in years, lelon , teapo , and much korean capacitors, and also the green 3 watt resistors in mains power supply replace by good vishay resistors of 3 watt it can preventing falter because of bad end caps inside the resistors its an outside not to see but it can faltering by thermic heat.

There is no sound

Look at the top of the main board. There are two capacitors together. Look at the area just to the top of the board and behind the capacitors. There is a very small resistor(flat) soldered to the board. I had the same problem, so I removed bad resistor and replaced it with a 10 ohm resistor from Radio Shack. Sound is back. Cost a couple of bucks and took about an hour in all. Hope this helps.

I just got brand new jamo sub 650. But very next day Their is a power turn on problem with the product. I have changed the plugs also I got the monster power cord still sometimes it does not turn on and...

This sounds like a resistor problem.
Most likely, when it got shipped to you, it jarred the electronics inside.

Now, because there are several resistors inside of it, I don't recommend just trying to replace them yourself.
I would take it to Fry's, Best Buy, or Radio Shack.

They have electronics repair technicians, and they know how to find the bad resistors quite easily with their testing tools.

I say resistors, as opposed to capacitors.
If it was that, the unit would turn on, and then always shut off within a couple of seconds.

I hope this helps you know what is going on, and I hope it gives you some idea as to what to do next.

Good luck to you, and have a good day.

I left the house with the recorder working - recording a movie. i came home and the recorder is completely off: no display, I/0 does not work, either on the unit, or the remote. it's plugged in....

It sounds like the power supply has failed. A good idea would be to check all components in this section, in particular the IC regulators, as well as diodes and capacitors for leakage and/or short circuits. Look for bad solder joints, burnt spots around parts, swollen capacitors etc. The ICs in this series (especially those in the power area) are known to cause trouble, so check those first. Also check resistors (fusible, high wattage (usually white block types) and normal colour-banded types) to see if any are open circuit or have gone high (resistors don't usually short circuit - they either go open circuit or change their value).

To ensure long-term reliability, it is a good idea to replace ALL of the electrolytic capacitors in any power supply as well as any blown/open/short-circuit parts. Capacitors are the most likely culprits for problems, so when replacing them, uprate their working voltages and/or values where necessary. If none of this restores your machine to full operation, take it to a service centre and seek a second opinion on this matter.

hello if i was repairing it i use a good strong light and magnifying glass to see if is and burn't parts or any bulging caps any blown chips if these are ok then start to check parts. first i always check diodes then transistor then resistor then capacitors it can take a lot of time it. would be easyier if you know some 1 who is good with electronics it is worth fixing but it will cost you . hope you can get sorted shaun

M y problem is i have no vertical out

Most likely you either have an open resistor off of the highvoltage transformer or a bad vertical output IC. If the set has some age, it would be a good idea to replace all the electrolytic capacitors around the IC as well. Thanks for using fixya.

CD Player stops in middle of songs

sounds like the stop button is getting a crossover signal

the CD player ALWAYS has vibration... (impossible to make a perfect balanced spinning mechanism...) and this could allow a slight vibration to affect the machine... age making it more prominent and thus the delay in occurance

but more likely the Capacitor has gone bad (13 years is a very good life for the small charge holders) allowing the voltage to go where it isn't supposed to go

assuming you are a DIY guy then trace the path for the stop button and check the capacitors and resistors in the area

usually a connection is make or break but it could have a signal pull resistor with a capacitor to stop direct current.. if so, that is the first capacitor to check... also good news in this case... the capacitor that fits with a pull up/down switch isn't very critical in it's specs so a close match should be fine

Flickering and Jumping Picture

The problem in your tv is not external.
The problem is in the power supplies internal filtering.
On the primary side of the power supply main board you will find
a large electrolytic capacitor very near the fuse and the primary transformer( the small one). Next to this capacitor you will find a
large 5 watt diode.( black with a silver band at one end). Next to this you will find one lone 1/4 watt resistor. This resistor in conjuction with large electrolytic capacitor is responcible for the internal filtering of the high voltage side of the board. As your unit heats up( anywhere fron 5 to 30 mins) you will notice horizontal
flickering and prior to that red or green or even purple pixelation.
Check this 1/4 watt resistor for dark discoloration and or a bad solder joint on the solder side of the board. This resistor
is directly responcible for controlling the bias current to the high voltage regulators for the 160 volts DC. At no time should you handle or troubleshoot this board with the line plug in.
Even when this board is powered down that capacitor still holds a charge for up to an hour and can knock your you know what
in your sock. If you do not feel comfortable please take the board to someone else. Hope this helps.
