Problems using a USB keyboard with an iMac intel

After installing a USB "Macally" brand keyboard (designed to work with the iMac) and having my iMac "recognize" it, I find that although all the main keboard keys work, none of the NUMBERS on the numerical keypad on the right hand side of the keyboard work. The symbol keys (=. /, *, -, + and ENTER) on the numerical keyboard DO work, but none of the number keys work. I replaced this keyboard with another generic USB full keyboard as well as a stand-alone wireless numerical keypad and had the same results. Neither Macally nor Apple technicitions were able to solve this problem.

My iMac is up-to-date on software upgrades and there are no aftermarket Bluetooth radios attached to my computer.

Good luck!!

I went to the Apple website and looked for keyboard drivers but found none.

  • tedulrich Mar 13, 2009

I have actually pressed the "NUM LOCK / CLEAR" key many times to no avail. To prove this, as I stated in my original message, SOME of the keys work on the Numbers Keypad but none of the NUMBER keys.

try , one you have installed the Keyboard Software Update 1.1)

    1. go to your system preferences
    2. select Dashboard & Expose
    3. change the keyboard shortcuts for Expose & Dashboard to - (ie empty)
    4. try your new keys
    5. now you should be able to put back the keys in system preferences (i have mine set to F16, F17 F18 & F19)

i think the problem is that they had 2 keyboard maps for same acction (one F key & the new key map)

    anyway this worked for me

There should be a driver for this keyboard to be recognized by mac, go to macfacture website and look for the mac driver, also if you look for the setting in mac perference for the keyboard , you can change it. try it may be it work.

Best Regards

    1. Disconnect and reconnect your keyboard if it is external. Make sure that the connector is completely inserted into the port. (USB plugs fit into ports one way only, and won't allow you to make a connection if you try to connect them in upside-down.) Test the keyboard again.
    2. Connect your keyboard to a different USB port.
    3. Try a different keyboard on your computer if possible, or your keyboard on a different Mac.

    Try this:

    1. Open Speech preferences in System Preferences. If "Speak selected text when the key is pressed" is enabled, the key combination to speak text cannot be used for other purposes or used to type text--change to a more obscure key combination (try to use more modifier keys such as Shift, Command, Option, and Control). Or, simply disable the "Speak selected text when the key is pressed" option.
    2. Open Universal Access preferences in System Preferences, click the Keyboard tab, and make sure that Slow Keys is turned off. With Slow Keys on, you need to press a key for a longer period of time for it to be recognized.
    3. In Universal Access preferences, click the Mouse tab, and make sure Mouse Keys is turned off. With Mouse Keys enabled, you cannot use the Numeric Keypad to enter numbers--instead the keypad moves the pointer (cursor). (There is an option to enable Mouse Keys with five presses of the Option key; you may want to turn that option off to avoid accidentally enabling it.) If Mouse Keys is enabled and you are using a keyboard with no numeric keypad or Num Lock function, see this article.
    4. If the issue persists, open System Preferences and click International.
    5. Click the Input Menu tab.
    6. Click the Keyboard Viewer "On" checkbox to select it.
    7. From the Input (flag) menu, choose Show Keyboard Viewer.

    8. If the keyboard is connected and detected by Mac OS X, the keys you type will highlight in the Keyboard Viewer window. Try typing to see which keys are not highlighting in Keyboard Viewer.
    9. Open TextEdit (or another text application) and try to type something using the keys that were previously not responding.

  • Try to update your mac firmware, there is update for keypad firmware, go to mac webpage and look for your computer firmware update and i think it should fix the problem.

    Best Regards

There's nothing on my USB but it says i used all its data. Is there anyway to use it again?

You have posted a question about usb in the UPS (uninterupted power supply) section but I wil endeavour to help you.

first you need to work out if it is a SANDISC usb device as these may require special treatment.

If it is any other brand there is a chance you may be able to just re-format it

Again take care as even some other brands may just require a utility from the brands Web site to do this.

If not then in windows explorer or my computer right click on your device and select format.

Normally you would select FAT32 as they format type then tell it to start.

Connection problem with msr206

1. Try plug in the device to the back of your computer instead of the front USB port (this is because some computers don't have enough power in the front USB ports) 2. Some USB 2.0 device are not backward compatible with USB 1.1 ports. Try plugging in with USB 1.1 and 2.0 port to see that's the cause of the problem.
3. Try downgrade all your USB port from 2.0 down to 1.1, you can do that in your BIOS.
4. if all failed, try the USB device on a different computer. Then you can determine if the USB device or the USB port is the culprit of the problem
also, if you can't find your solution here, you might be able to find it on the link below...

585avr isn't working w/vista OS,

While the 585AVR is not designed for Vista, it should work. You will need to use the CyberPower serial to USB cable, and the most recent version of PowerPanel Personal Edition software. You can download the latest software @ http://www.cyberpowersystems.com/software/PPPE_V_1.2.2_Setup.exe
If you have any questions, or need the CyberPower serial to USB cable, please contact CyberPower Systems Technical Support at 877-297-6937, M-F, 8-5 Central.

RF Keyboard 1.0

Easy one-

hit and hold these keys in order CTRL-ALT-Delete. Chose the Task Manager in the new window that pops open. There are four tabs - Applications, Processes, Performance, Networking. Make sure process is chosen. Click on where it says "Image Name" so everything is in alphabetical order. Seach for a process that aludes to your keyboard (magickeyboard.exe or such). Right click then "End Process". Now uninstall.

Unfortuneately I don't know the name of the specific process it is runningso take your best guess.

Don't fret if you think you messed up anything, when you reboot, everything comes back!!

Other ways to try things including the Windows boot file, this is just the easiest and usually works...

Installation for canon pixma ip 1500

Hey you again, you rated me yesterday Inappropriate. Actually, fixya expert afraid to give some solution because you will rated us Inappropriate even the problem is came from you where you was not clearly stated your problem.

Ok, but anyway I am still to help you, Is it the problem goes to the manual installation you need or the driver instead?

Printers used to be the bugbear of computer users. They were difficult to set up and ornery in operation. That's no longer the case and it's likely you'll have no problems getting your printer up and running. This is particularly the case if your printer comes packaged with your computer system or if you stick to well-known brands such as Hewlett-Packard, Epson, Lexmark and Canon.
Connecting a printer involves four steps:
  1. Unpacking your printer, removing any packaging material and installing the ink or toner cartridge. Refer to your printer's instructions to guide you.
  2. Connecting the printer cable to the printer and to the back of your computer.
  3. Connecting the printer's power cord to a power outlet.
  4. Installing the printer driver and any additional software. The printer driver is a piece of software that tells your computer how to interact with your printer.
If your printer comes as part of your system, you may find that its driver is already installed. In that case, all you'll need to do is unpack it, connect the printer cable and power cord and switch on your computer.
geekgirl.tip: Get a cable One word of warning: Make sure you purchase a printer cable! Often, this is not included in your computer system, despite it being an essential item. You'll need the correct type of cable for your printer: If it's a USB-enabled printer, you need a USB cable (note, the new USB 2 cables work with older USB 1 printers, too; so if in doubt, get a USB 2 cable); if it's a parallel printer, you'll need a parallel cable.
Make sure you get a cable long enough to reach easily from your printer to your computer. However, you should avoid cables longer than 10', because long cables can cause problems with communication between printer and computer. Try to position your printer so a 6' (or shorter) cable can make the connection.
Follow the wizard If your printer's software has not been pre-installed, read any installation instructions that accompany your printer and follow those instructions. If no instructions are provided, follow this procedure:
(Note: This procedure applies to printers which use a parallel connection. If your printer uses a USB connection, you should connect it while Windows is running and it will be recognised.)
  1. Make sure you have your original Windows CD-ROM handy. You may need it.
  2. Switch the computer off.
  3. Connect the parallel printer cable to your computer.
  4. Connect the printer's power cord to a power outlet.
  5. Switch on the printer and the computer.
  6. In most cases, Windows will detect that you've attached a new hardware device and it will launch the Add Hardware Wizard and attempt to search for the appropriate software. If the wizard doesn't launch and Windows appears to ignore your printer, you can launch the Add Printer wizard yourself by clicking the Start button, selecting Control Panel, clicking Printers And Other Hardware, and then clicking Add Printer.
  7. If the printer is directly connected to your computer, select the Local Printer Attached To This Computer option. If you will be connecting to the printer via a network connection, select the Network Printer option, then click Next.
  8. The wizard will first try to search for any Plug and Play devices (these are components that should, by rights, automatically notify Windows when they're first connected). If the wizard discovers your printer, it will display further instructions to complete the installation. You may need to restart your system to finish.
