    Thanks for the help

Unfortunately though after popping the lid up I noticed water leaking from what I assume is the water pump. After a little coaxing from the wife I have decided to let her have a new washer. ( this one is about 15 years old ) I remember back in the good old days that the lid of the washer would come up. Thanks for your speedy response and I will recomend this site to anyone who will listen

The switch should be under the control panel,,,, which should be easily removed by inserting something flat such as a butter knife, or flat head screw driver in the front left, and right corners and carefully "popping" the panel up. The switch should than be visible

Best way to replace lid switch

Unplug or turn off breaker to unit. check online for mounting bolt placement for your make / model unit. Remove all mounting bolts and or clips to remove cover. Remove wires going to lid switch. Replacement is the reverse. Use needle nose pliers to remove and install wire connections, so as not to bend or break switch terminals.

Water won't drain, how can I open the the washing machine

I would recommend checking your lid switch. If the washer fills and doesn't do anything, or stops right after the wash cycle and then does not advance to the rinse cycle and drain, this is commonly caused by a lid switch malfunction. The lid switch is usually mounted under the washer top casing, on the right hand side on most top load models. It is activated by a plastic piece on the lid (called a "Lid Strike") through a small hole on the rim of the wash tub opening. In many cases the lid strike breaks off the lid, or the lid switch becomes loose and no longer makes contact. Inspect the lid to make sure the lid strike is still intact, and then inspect the mounting screws (adjacent to the small opening on the wash tub rim) and make sure they are snug.

If not activated by a lid strike, other models have the lid switch located under the washer casing next to one of the lid hinges. It is activated by a rod contacting an actuator. The mounting scews for this type are located under the operator console.

If you determine the switch to be defective, the following link explains how to access the washer interior and replace one:

If the switch requires replacement, a new one can be purchased on line at searspartsdirect.com, pcappliancerepair.com, repairclinic.com, appliancepartspros.com. Most of these spin related problems are attributed to a lid switch malfunction. Kenmore top load washer- have to bang lid several

Hi,
This is most certainly caused by a faulty micro switch on the lid. Have the switch checked out and replaced if need be.

Best wishes,

No water pressure on fill.

Hi, If you have checked the screens in the mixer valve and there is nothing plugging it, then it is most likely the mixer valve.
I hope this helps. Please let me know and feel free to rate my response to you.

Thanks

My Kenmore 80 series washer won't agitate but it will spin. I have replaced a coupler before, but this problem seems different. Any help?

This problem is commonly attributed to a lid switch malfunction. If the model number you have this listed under is correct, the lid switch is mounted under the washer top casing, on the right hand side on most top load models. If your washer is not configured in this manner, please post back with your COMPLETE model number (located along the tub rim under the lid) so I can confirm how your washer IS configured.

A replacement lid switch can be purchased on line at searspartsdirect.com, repairclinic.com or appliancepartspros.com. All three sites offer competitive pricing, so shop all three for the best price. For instructions on how to replace a lid switch, you can refer to my profile and look under my "Tips and Tricks" for links for Replacing a Lid Switch.
