RCA Tru Flat has one of the best pictures for a digital flat screen. This exact TV is my bedroom TV in my home. As for the cable, you can run either a standard 75ohm coax cable or AV wires from the cable box to the back of the TV. Hope this helps.
It sounds like the convergence has failed, and if it is all over the screen and very pronounced I would check that the scan coils have not loosened and moved before I investigated for an electronic fault in the convergence circuit

Keep down the colour completley, and note whether you get a pure black and white picture. If not adjust the cutoff control, normally these are preset controls fitted on the base card of the TV; to adjust the excess colour seen on the screen to increase or decrease; so that you can get a clean black and white pocture with no tint on it. it is a time taking task; and should have some sort of skill and more patience. Sometimes you may have to retune other two cutof controls [Blue and Green], too to get the desired effect.
There is a red drive issue going to the picture tube. Being that the problem could be anywhere from the signal processor to the picture tube itself it is hard to say exactly where the problem is. There are a lot of parts between the signal processor and the picture tube. Have a shop check it out for you. Thanks for using fixya.
You either have a bad CRT or a Shorted Red Output IC/Transistor. One other possibility is if
someone turned the Screen Control down if it is accessible from the back of the set.
Hope this helps,
