Re: Wireless wont connect

Hi, I have found a link that may help you set up your system. You don't say what the setup error is? I think the "Help Link URL" will show ya how to reset the router, so do that.. set up the SSID and Channel and, then go to the lappy & set up your Wifi for "Client"mode, as ya should have set up ya Router as an "Access Point" ensure that is all set up correctly. below is a link to a program Wireless Mon, install this on the Lappy, and use it to see if your "Wifi Router" is actualy transmitting etc...and prove ya wifi in lappy is OK.. G L.

Welcome to FixYa!

For you to be able to do that, you will need to set the SMC router to bridge mode, you will not be able to do that by yourself because only tech from your ISP have the capability of doing that since they have this tool that can operate on the router setting it to bridgemode. Basically, you will need to call your ISP to set the router to bridgemode and from there, you will be able to configure the linksys router.
Hope this information will help.

Your response is very much appreciated. Thank you for using FixYa!

I have forgotten my password on my smc 7004vwbr and need help to reset

I assume this is your wireless KEY
The user manual is here
you can choose the exact model from here
You should be able to see how to view or reset the wireless password.
Connect your PC to the Router with a LAN cable:- You will need to login to your router- you do this by typing a number into a web browser, Internet explorer, is best as some routers do not work with other browsers The way to log into the router is usually to use the IP address, thats a number which will be in the manual - Page 29 on the manual (33 on pdf screen) To access the Wireless Barricade’s management interface, enter the Wireless Barricade IP address in your Web browser Then click LOGIN. (By default, there is no password.) Goto the wireless section - secruity and you should be able to see the KEY - IF its all * - the you can type in a newone
I would also remove the wireless profile from your PC - to do this have a read of this link. Remove the wireless profiles from your PC

Computer wont recognize cable hookup

You will have to start the configuration from the wired network rather than the wireless network. Connect the computer directly to the router. I am assuming you might be trying to configure the router from the wireless network. Then use the installation CD to configure the router

Two router home network problem

Can you still connect to the Internet with the Linksys router? I suggest that you go ahead and reset the SMC router to clear up your previously configured settings. Then before reconnecting it to the linksys router, make sure that you can access its web interface via Don't disable DHCP as your computer won't be able to obtain an IP address from it automatically. Do not change other settings. Next, disconnect the ethernet cable and check if you can access the router interface wirelessly. Once done, connect SMC's WAN port to Linksys' numbered port. Make sure SMC's WAN light is on, as well as the light for the port you used on the Linksys router. Check if you can get online.

With this configuration, the linksys router is now acting like a modem, and the SMC as your router. As long as you're online when wired to the linksys, you should also be able to access the net on the SMC once you physically connect them.
