Water Dispenser not working

I have a GE GSS25LGMBBB side by side refrigerator that is about 7 years old. The Water dispenser is not working but it is making ice. I followed the advice to thaw a frozen water line. It now works BUT it starts and stops pumping water in mid stream.

I'm now officially out of my depth and need some help. But, it seems like an easy fix that I don't want to pay someone $200 to fix.

Thanks Water dispenser not working. Repair guy has repalced damper door and also now, the temp control unit in the refrigerator.

It makes ice just fine, but the water dispenser in the door does not work. We have a home warranty which covers the repair, but the guy keeps replacing different parts, none of them have helped the problem. It's GE model # GSS25LGMB.

Either the ice isn't all gone or your switch is intermittent. I would think the guy that looked it over would ahve seen these problems. Maybe I need you to start over and tell us again what its doing and not doing.

If the ice maker is working, and no water is coming out, the water line may be frozen.  This happened to me yesterday, and I followed the advice on ehow.com.  It worked like a charm! Take a hair dryer, and blow hot air up into the dispenser tube, holding the hair dryer about 8-10 inches away.  After about 5 minutes or so, a tiny chip of ice and a couple of drops may pop out.  Fill up a couple of glasses of water to flush it out, and you should be good!

The ice maker was working but no water coming out of the despenser. Removed the base grill, took a blow dryer for about 2 minutes on the tube and wala....water started to come out. Great idea about the blow dryer!

My water despenser stopped working on my GE GSH25JFREWW model

My Solution: I took a blow dryer and blew it on my water despenser water pipe for about 5 minutes.... then I got a can of Air (Any can wiil do) the kind you blow away dust on your keyboard and computer. I use the straw that comes with the Air Duster and stuck inside the water desenser water pipe and shot air in it.... It felt like I struck OIL!! The water came gushing out.... All working fine... This worked for me... Hope this helps someone else.

Dont' waste your time with anything other than a hair dryer on the hinge side of the freezer door for about 5 - 10 mins. Took me 7. I've had this GE side by side for 7 years, the water flow always seemed low compared to other fridges I've encountered but it was passable. After my hair dryer defrost it's flowing better than ever. Wonder if that blockage started when I first got it.

On our GE Profile Arctica Model PSS26MGPA CC we had turned up the temperature to number 5 after returning to our Florida home. This temperature was too cold, freezing some of the contents on the refrigerator side. Shortly afterwards we could not get ice or water from the dispenser door. Thinking that we might have frozen the water lines we waited for over a week with no action from the dispenser. Finally we put in a new water filter and viola, everything works again. The water filter was still frozen after over a week.

The water fill valve in the back? Has 2 coils on it. 1 FOR ice make 1 for water in door. Check voltage to both of these with a volt meter. Usually 110V. If you get 110V when you push in the door water switch every time and it doesn't fluctuate more than 5 volts while holding the switch on (plunger in) the valve is most likely faulty.
If the voltage is not there then the door switch, the wiring to the valve coil, are suspect and can be eliminated.
Test the door switch and see if you can go around it and make the water come through and/or the voltage come to the back where the valve is.
If not the wiring is usually the only thing left and a rodent has probably paid you a visit.
If it does come on to the back when you wire around the switch the switch is faulty or the mechanism that actuates the switch is not getting the switch to close.

If this helps you please rate me accordingly. Good Luck.

No dispensing water...GE refrigerator

There may be an interlock switch on the housing where the filter or dummy stopper is inserted. If this interlock is not satisfied, then the water dispenser won't turn on. This would prevent water from spraying all over the inside of the refrigerator if the filter is not seated properly. Check to make sure the filter or plug is inserted properly.

GE Side By Side Ice Machine & Water dispenser not getting water

you may have a pin hole in your water line to your dispenser or you could be leaking at the water valve itself on the water dispenser side. you'll have to pull the refrigerator out from the wall and look where the main water line goes into the back of the refrigerator. you will probably have to take the back off to see. be sure you put the back of the refrigerator back when you are through.

make sure that the solenoid valve that lets water into the ice maker is working. you can also double check that there is no blockage in the supply line and at the solenoid.

My water dispenser suddenly has stopped working.

Yes, it could be the water filter. Also check to make sure the water is turned on and that any lines to the refrigerator aren't kinked or crushed somewhere. It's also possible that you will not be making any ice as well if your appliance has an ice maker

In door ice dispenser does not work but the water dispenser does.

check to make sure there is water or ice in your ice maker tray. If none then problem is usually a water supply issue to the ice maker. Behind the frig are the water supply inlet valves. One is for the water dispenser in the door. THe other is for the ice maker. However when one goes bad they both are replaced as one unit. Also Check position of fingers in ice maker. If not in a vertical position then try to reset the ice maker unit and worse comes to worse, replace it with a new one.

its possible that your water tank has frozen up, try turning the refrig off and leave the doors open for about 10-15 mins and try it again. if that works just reset temp controls a little lower..
