Question about Kenwood KAC-7202 Car Audio Amplifier

Radio will not play unless high level input is disconnected/recon

I'm running a VRVD640G head unit, A Dual brand 340 watt amp connected to two 12" Dual subs in series.

I have not had any luck using the RCA jacks on this head unit to feed signal to the amp so I'm using the built in high level input in the amp.

When I turn on the Head unit there will be no sound until I disconnect both wires from the high level input jack. If I hook the high level input up while the head unit is playing the system works for as long as I have it turned on. Strong bass, no over heating, etc.

I'm starting to tire of having to pop the trunk and fiddle with wires to have and sound or bass.

    There is a setting in the sound control panel that allows you to turn the subwoofer RCA output on or off. Are you sure it is set to on?

How to install jensen 40w+40w a-80


I have one of these new, in the box, with no instructions.

Specifications:
Power Output: 40W/Chan Maximum, 18W/Chan RMS
(20hz-20khz into 4 ohms at less than 1% THD)
Freq. Responce: 20hz-30khz, +/-3dB
Signal to noise ratio: 80dB, A-weighted
Input Sensitivity:
Low Level, 100-500 mV
High Level, 1-5v
Input Impedence:
Low Level, 10k ohms
High Level, 27 ohms
Load Impedence: 4-8 ohms allowable (4-8 ohm speakers)
Power Requirement: 14.4v DC (10.8-15.6 allowable)

As you can see the RMS wattage output of these units is only about 18W maximum.

I am planning on using the amp I have on a low power factory car radio. A low power factory radio output should be somewhere between 6-12 watts rms/channel. I will be using the "High Level" inputs for this. DO NOT connect a radio with a higher output power. If your radio says "High Power", 25W/channel, etc, do not connect to this amp. (exception: you can use the "line out" connectors, if so equipped, See Below). I don't have the connector for the high level input so i don't know what I'll do to hook up to it. I'll probably just run wires out of the amp, in lieu of the connector.

The "Low Level" inputs are for an unamplified, line level signal ("line out" connection of a radio, portable CD player, etc). Do Not connect a greatly amplified signal to these connections.

I don't know much about the "Input Sensitivity" control (pot). I'll be leaving it on "Low" for my initial test.

The grey wires are the right speaker wires and the white wires are the left speaker wires. The grey wire with a black tracer mark is the right speaker positive (+) wire. The white wire with a black tracer is the left speaker positive (+) wire.

The blue/white wire is for attachment to your radio's "Auto Ant" (power antenna) connection (usually a orange wire, I said USUALLY). If you have a power antenna on your car, simply splice into the wire running from your radio to the antenna. This blue/white wire activates a relay in the amp which, in turn, completes the circuit through the yellow (+) power wire (See Below). - Alternative 1: You could run this wire directly to your battery with a switch to turn the amp on. You would need to place an in-line fuse of 2amp. - Alternative 2: You could connect this wire to the accessory fuse in your fuse box. If this is done, again, attach a 2amp in-line fuse for extra protection. (Note: if attached to your fuse box accessory fuse, the amp will be on even if you're not using the radio. You could have a switch here also). These are just suggestions. The most common way to connect the blue/white wire is the "Auto Antenna" wire of your radio.

The large black wire is main Ground (-) for the amp. The large yellow wire is Positive (+) power to the amp. Ideally, these should be connected straight to your battery's (+) and (-) terminals. The yellow wire on your amp should have an integral in-line fuse holder with a 7amp fuse. If not, add one. Of course, the black ground wire could simply be attached under a screw, into the body of the vehicle.

First, know that you need either high level input or low level input, but not both. Low level input is preferred (RCA cables). If you must use high level input because your head unit doesn't have RCA jacks, you connect the speaker outputs from the head unit to the high level input of your amp. The high level input plug probably has a black wire, this is "signal reference ground". A pair of grey wires which are right positive (grey) and right negative (grey with black stripe). And a pair of white wires, left positive (white) and left negative (white with black stripe).

I have a similar setup & I just run the second amp straight off the other amp by running positive & remote wires directly from 1 amps positive & remote inputs to the others amps inputs. But my head unit has RCA inputs, (sub in & front & rear inputs) so from my 4 channel amp I run 2 6 inch alpine S's to the front to the front RCA inputs of the head unit, & 2 Pioneer 440w 6x9 inch speakers to the rear inputs. & my 800w 12 inch sub from my 2 channel amp to the sub woofer inputs on the head unit. Has blown my eardrums for nearly 12 months now great stuff! Hope this has helped

Hello sxy_spud,

Those wires are for the "speaker level" inputs to the amp. If you are using RCA cables from your head unit, you do not connect these at all.

If you are NOT using RCA cables from your head unit, the "pigtail" ends of the high-level input wires are usually connected to the rear speakers.

Hello gmb_66,

You did not specify exactly which Jensen amp you have. None of the Jensen PowerPlus series I found had high-level inputs. You can go here and select your amp to download the manual. They should also have the connector for speaker inputs.

Most amps that have both high-level and RCA inputs allow you to use one or the other, but not both at the same time. If your head unit has RCA ourputs, those would be the ones to use, because they generally provide a cleaner signal to the amp with less noise.

Also called speaker level inputs, an input on an amplifier specifically designed for higher voltage and lower impedance signals, typically between 1.2 to 12 volts and 4 to 8 ohms, as found on the outputs of low powered speaker connections. Hi-level inputs are commonly used as an easy and convenient upgrade path to connect factory-installed head units to after-market amplifiers.
high level inputs are less subjected to interference and can travel further without signal loss.
Factory radios do not have dedicated outputs for amplifiers (preamp outputs). So you'll want an amplifier with speaker-level (often called high-level) inputs; these inputs enable you to tap into the factory speaker wires for a signal flow.
They're called high-level inputs because the voltage level is significantly higher than with a standard preamp output connection. These inputs convert the high voltage to one the amplifier can handle. Once connected, you'll hear clean, well-defined sound (including the lyrics to your favorite song).
Speaker-level inputs are a standard of many two- and four-channel, and mono subwoofer amplifiers.
All the power wires no the amp will be ran the same with the exception of the remote turn on wire. +12v constant will still go to the battery(properly fused with 12" of the battery!), and the ground will still go to the chassis. You can hook the remote turn on to the +12v ignition wire behind the radio, or the equivilent fuse in the fuse box. I would not recomend hooking it up to the pwr ant wire on the stock deck as it often goes off when the radio is off, or cd is playing.

As I said, most cars have no issues with any of this, but cars with "PREMIUM SOUND" systems often do not mesh well with aftermarket equipment. Fords JBL or chrystlers infinity (And bose in darn near anything!) are often cause issues. Sometimes you can easily bypass this system(Ford), sometimes you have little choice but to rip it all out and start fresh(Bose). I can walk you through the scenarios for most makes and models, but certainly do not have the time or patience to give every one. Hit me up on the forum and I will be happy to help you further....

thats not a good idea the much power taken from the radio will fry the radio a stock stereo usally has a 125 watt max so my suggestion is but a radio that can deal with the power

Sony xplod amp xm-1652z high level input connection


First off, if you're using RCA preamp connections from the head unit to the amp, you don't need to put anything into the high level input connector. But if your head unit doesn't have RCA preamp outputs, then connect the front left to the white (+) and white/black stripped (-) wires and the front right to the grey (+) and grey/black stripped (-) wires. There is no need to connect the rear speaker outputs of the head unit to the high level input of the amp.

No place for amp to go in headunit

Amp connection


The speaker level input is designed to accept the speaker level signal from a head unit. This is generally no more than 20 watts RMS. If you drive the inputs with more than 20 watts, you risk damaging the input circuits of the amp.
