Synaptic Touch Pad randomly moves pointer on screen

I am using Vista Premium 32bit on a Toshiba Satellite a205.

Just recently my Synaptics Pointing Device has been malfunctioning.

It will work for 5-10 minutes just fine after booting up. But then a bubble will popup from the icon in the tray telling me that the Features have been disabled (such as the are on the track pad that allows you to scroll up and down with ease)

This is when it will start goofing off. I will be moving my finger around but on screen the pointer will shoot in different directions randomly. Iv noticed this happens more often when I use the left mouse button on the laptop to click something. The on screen pointer will shoot off in a random direction.

It still works but its annoying and hard to use at times because its almost like it wants to be suborn and not cooperate.

I have the latest drivers - v11.2.4

Any solutions?

If your computer have a, Synaptics Touchpad you can try these steps:

1. Access the properties of the Synaptics Pointing Device by right-clicking on the system tray icon at the bottom right-hand corner of the screen. If you do not see the icon, open your Control Panel and select the "Performance and Maintenance" option. Click "System", then "Hardware", then "Device Manager" to view the devices on your computer. Open the "Mice and Other Pointing Devices" selection.

2. Click on the "Device Settings" tab of the "Mouse Properties" window. The "Device Settings" tab is at the top of the window and located farthest to the right

3. Highlight the Synaptics Touchpad from the list of available pointing devices. Click the "Disable" button underneath the list. Click "OK" on the pop-up menu to confirm your selection. Click "OK" on the Mouse Properties window to close the window. Your Synaptics Touchpad will now be disabled.

Make sure to connect a USB mouse to your laptop before disabling the touchpad so that you will still have control of your pointer.

Hope this help. Goodluck!

My synaptic pointing device stop working ..I think

Since you do not specify the model number for your HP laptop one cannot be too specific. On my Toshiba laptop activation and deactivation of the touch pad is enacted by pressing the Fn-F9 sequence.

The actual Function key to press after the Fn key might have the picture of a touch pad on it. Examine tour laptop keyboard.

Toshiba a300 synaptic touch pad scroller stopped working

Hi there.
The touchpad drivers could be corrupt, try reinstalling the touchpad drivers again.
Go here to Toshiba Support fill in the details of your model laptop and download the synaptics touchpad driver and reinstall it, see if that helps.

Synaptics pointing device ceased to function

Load up device manager , highlight your computer (top in the list) and right click - select scan for new hardware - See if it detects your pointing device now

If it does , right click it , update driver etc and reinstall the drivers for it

If not , it might be a hardware problem , try getting it repaired by toshiba if its still under warranty

Synaptics pointing device ceased to function

Check Device Manager to see if the trackpad/mouse is listed. Check BIOS menu not disabled Check you have no 'palm-check' hot keys which disables the trackpad (to avoid moving mouse when you are typing)

MY SCROLL DOESNT WORK ON MY TOUCH PAD

this may be unfortunate, but it's plain and simple. Either SYNAPTICS POINTING DEVICE which can be found 'C:\Program Files\Synaptics\SynTP' on your laptop i corrupted or infected, or your touch pad is buggered. Hope this was of some help and if you have anymore problems just post them.
