Sounds like rod is seized on the crank... Oil lubed?

This is one of my other solutions to a Craftsman 3 gallon... Sounds to me like it is locked up... There are four screws at the back of the compressor that cover oil tank. put the compressor on it's nose and remove those screws and the cover. You will see the bottom of the rod that runs to the piston and the crank. See if you can turn the crank by hand, if not it is locked. You can take a 1 inch socket and place over the crank resting on the rod. Give it a good smack with a hammer and try to push the rod toward the front of the compressor, sometimes they just get jammed... sometimes you didn't change the oil like you were supposed too... :) If the rod moves, try to turn the crank with your hand again... if it moves, it is free and will work. If it doesn't move, you may need to repeat process or look at removing and using a little emory cloth.

    Just adapt to your compressor.

All Trade 5 Gal just humms wont turn on

The start capacitor has gone bad. Needs to be replaced. That's what's inside that bump on the side of the motor.

My trades pro air compressor model 830210 It was working great. It shut down and now all it does is humm.

Hi whj1...
Check your power going to the compressor and make sure you are getting the full 115 or 220 volts to the motor..
Check or replace your start capacitor/s
Check the amperage pull on the motor with a clip over ampmeter and compare it to the metal tag on the motor.
Check you motor to make sure it turns smoothly and not binding up
Check your compressor to make sure it turns smoothly and not binding up.

Unit it working, but no cold air is coming throughout the house

check condensing unit outside, the fan could be turning but the compressor could be off if this is the case turn the a/c off for about 10 minutes then turn it back on an hear if the compressor is trying to start. you should hear a loud humm if the compressor is trying to start but can not, if this is the case is likely that you have a bad capacitor. there are other causes for the compressor not starting this is the most common. always follow safety guidelines when working with high voltage.

My ac turns on but just humms, no fan no cold air. a lil gurgling. it worked in my driveway, but when i arrived i can't get it to turn on.

your compressor is starting but the fan(s) are not running, leading to the shut-down of the unit, especially if the condenser fan doe's not operate for heat transfer off the condenser coil to remove the "latent" heat generated by the compressor so it is short cycling and will not keep running to cool this area

Pump humms and barely turns. Fan blade caught wire caused huge spark. wire has been replaced.pump does not really seem to get going and trips safety after a minute of running.

hi there!
short circuited at start damage motor compressor
if you have a service center for motor compressor have checked this one, motor compressor has thermal overload protection mostly on single phase motor inside the motor,in the absence of overload protector the winding of motor on start and running maybe shor circuited.this should be rewind by motor rewinder.check the cost of motor rewind to a brand new motor.have choose n it.have a nice day fix my rate.

I have a craftman 30 gallon compressor, and when it's turned on sounds like a 3 phase motor lossing a leg. It humms and won't spin, however it draws over the current limit (15amps). I checked the windings...

hello, it sounds like your motor has seized up have you tried turning the motor by hand to see if you can free it up, has it sat for a long time with being ran ? or has it sat in humid weather causing rust or dirt to build up on the motor ?

I recently had a new outdoor unit installed on my central heat and air conditioning sytem. I have had the installer out 3 times and the system still does not operate correctly. Sometimes when it cycles...

It sounds like the compressor needs starting components installed on it. All a/c units have a run capacitor for the compressor and another one for the condenser fan motor. These motors use these capacitors all the time when the motor is running. However, in some cases, this capacitor isn't enough to get the compressor spinning initially. Starting components consist of two parts, a start capacitor and a potential relay. The starting components are wired in in series with the compressor run capacitor. When the compressor turns on, the start capacitor gives the compressor an extra "kick in the pants" to get it going, then as soon as the compressor is spinning, the potential relay disconnects the start capacitor from the circuit for the duration of the run time and resets when the compressor turns off. Most likely, your indoor unit has a thermal expansion valve (commonly known in the trade as a TXV). This valve maintains a somewhat substantial differential between the high side and low side of the compressor after the system turns off which can be difficult for the compressor to overcome without help. Right now the compressor is trying to come on, can't overcome the pressure, and is tripping it's internal overload to protect itself. Eventually, as the overload repeatedly trips and resets over and over, the compressor will finally get around to a position where it will start once in a while. I am not a gambling man and I would bet you money that this will solve your problem. If you would be so kind as to rate my solution "Fix-Ya".

Compressor turns on but not the fan.

Jeannine, on this model there is one motor that turns both the evaporator and condensor fans. First you want to check to see if there is any obstruction preventing the fans from turning. There is also a dual capacitor that gives this motor a kick start. If this goes bad the motor will not run, just humm. Hopefully it is just your capacitor that has failed but it could be the motor itself. Part number for the capacitor is 16-05-00710-109. Part number for the motor is 50-11-t26p0-050. Usually a bad capacitor will show signs of leaking or bulging, but not back
