XP has a problem installing directly from (non cd) usb devices by default. try it with a usb external cdrom and an actual windows cd (known to work) or reinstall ubunt and run windows as a virtual machine or if you are really into computers and really really need to install xp from usb try the link below. (good luck)
To reset my 901 XP, I remove the battery as shown on page 3-3 of the instruction manual. The reset button can now be accessed: it is a small shiny metal plate, about 3mm by 15 mm located on the left of the battery compartment (closest to the LAN port). Press the metal plate once with a ballpoint.
I would guarantee 98% that its your harddrive. I had a similar problem w/ one of my older computers. I installed a new harddrive and that fixed the problem.. Stay away from seagate hds, they are junk. `Nbryson
