To isolate the problem try this:
Plug your laptop to an external monitor using the monitor out port on the laptop. Hit the "function" key and the corresponding F key that has the LCD Screen/External Monitor icon. Usually around F6-F8 or so.
This will test if there is something wrong with the screen and if the laptop is booting up past the BIOS.
