There is a length of line that runs thru the refrigerator, If it drops below frezing where this is located the line will freeze causing a blockage.

Water dispensor not working

Assuming this is a GE side-to-side - I had this problem for the last few years -yes turning off the freezer with the door open for a few hours worked but is a royal pain in the neck. Using a hairdryer for 15 minutes does too, when it keeps freezing up agin every day. I also had a repairman install the GE kit to keep it from freezing - it worked for awhile, but then stopped working, and the water line again froze up. Looking at solutions around the Internet, the one that made the most sense suggested that there was insufficient insulation in the freezer door directly behind the water dispenser; i also noticed freezing air blowing directly there when the freezer was running. So I simply stuffed a cloth towel on the inside of the door where the ice comes through, and hanging down in front of the flat part behind the dispenser - and it did not freeze for several days. i then got a flat piece of insulating styrofoam, about 10inx11in, attached it by velcro to that flat part on the inside of the door, and have not had a problem since.

Why does water dispenser stop working? Seems to work fine after thawing freezer for about a day and seems to freeze up. Water line for dispenser routes through the door.

The water is door spigot can be freezing up if the ice door is stuck open. When you actuate your ice in door function you hear a solenoid CLICK. That solenoid is supposed to open the ice door flapper. If the flapper is not funtioning correctly (stuck open) then in as few as as 2 - 3 days your water in door can freeze again. If you want unit specific information we need your make and model number to better help you.

Thanks for hoosing FixYa,

Water dispensor stoppedworking

If the light and ice dispenser on the front panel works and If your fridge is 4 years old or older, the insulation in the freezer door has most likely deteriorated and the water in the tube feeding the water dispenser has probably frozen. Open the freezer door, put a blanket over the food to keep it from defrosting, and use a blow dryer to defrost the door. Blow the hot air on the flat panel inside the door (the backside of the water dispenser). Close the door about every 5 minutes to check to see if the water works. Once the water begins to flow, you have successfully defrosted the ice in the tube. Defrosting the door works for about 12 hours until it freezes again. To solve this problem, I placed a 10" weedeater line up thorugh the dispenser nozzle leaving about 1/8 of an inch sticking out. When the line freezes again, pull out the weedeater line, dispense water to free the ice, and then reinsert the weadeater line. I keep the line in all the time...it works great! If the light or ice dispenser do not work, the problem may be *********** board.

Our GSL25JFPD BS unit was installed 7/5/04 and in early 2009, we experienced water dispenser failure due to water line freeze-up, according to service technician. The freeze-ups resumed in February, 2010...

I found that when I used the crushed ice option, the lines would freeze up. Cubes were ok. Take everything out, including the ice, and turn it off for about 12 hours. Then check to see if it works again. If not, wait a little longer to let it fully defrost. If it still does not work after 24 hours, then you might need service.

Don't use crushed ice function.

According to factory experts, the water line is freezing in the door. There is no easy or cheap solution...they can replace the door for $300 is what I was told. The line is routed in such a way that it is not insulated enough from the cold of the freezer. Take off the bottom fan grill in front, take water line apart and cycle the water. It will pump out but not go through door. Buy a new door or go to the faucet.

FROFEN WATER LINE ON REFRIGERATOR DOOR

it seems to me that the tubing is not properly insulated in the door causing it to freeze you can open the liner and see if it is inside the insulation or lower your freezer section so it does not over freeze thanks from gilles
