My Kenmore side by side fridge isn't cooling hardly. Feeling the suction and discharge lines I think it's low on freon. How do I charge it?
Well I have to go, so I can't wait for your reply for more info. Basicallty what happened to me was the freezer became very good at freezing. The problem with modern freezer/fridges is that there is only one cooling system, the freezer. The freezer chills the other side to chill the refrigerator. Something was blocking that vent into the fridge side. Turns out it was ice blocking the vent into the refer side. It happens when it is humid and the kids to "shopping" in the fridge and leave the door opened for extended periods of time.
If you are blocked by stuff in your fridge, move it away from the vent. If nothing there, you'll need to get ready for a bit of time. Side-by-side freezer/fridges, typically the freezer is on the left. So, open the fridge, somewhere near the back about 2/3s of the way down, just above the vegetable bin, on the left side. Remove the cover, if something is stuck in there, gently try to remove it. If it is ice, like I had, you should remove your vegetable bin and meat bin and unplug the unit (to prevent shock as water will be everywhere. Be sure that your overflow tray (under the unit) is empty. Next is to make quite a bit of boiling water (I ended up using just over a gallon). If you are at the point where you can't get the cover off, you'll have to use a baster to melt the ice that is holding your vent cover on (that is where I started). Then you can start working on the ice. You need to keep putting water in until you get hot water in the overflow tray. Replace your food and don't slam the fridge control all the way to the coldest setting, you could end up freezing your meat and vegetables.
The repairman came and told us, he could do this for us for $200 or we could do it ourselves. He would have done the exact same thing.
