Question about Farmall International Tractor 140 Radiator

Open Question

Tighten steering on a Farmall 140

The play in the steering is about 1/3 of a turn. is this normal? If not, I have read on this post that you can back off a locking nut on the steering box and lose or tighten the screw to tighten up the steering. The problem is there is no such nut, screw or or adjustment. Only plugs to add or drain oil. What do I do?

A little play in steering wheel how do i adjust the steering box has a bolt and nut older ones had a bolt with a hole for a allen wrench to tighten

The same way. Loosen the nut, tighten the bolt down snug, then back it of about 1/8 turn. Drive it and adjust as necessary. If it doesn't adjust out. Check other steering linkage parts.

How do i adjust the steering box on a john deere jd1950

Pretty much every steering sector has a way to remove excessive play (backlash) in the worm gear. Look on the sector for a locknut encompassing a large threaded bolt with no head, usually a wide slot for a "flat bit" used in a 3/8 or 1/2" ratchet. Some DO have a square headed end on the adjustment screw. Back off the lock nut 3/4 turn and tighten the adjustment, turn the steering wheel back and forth, tighten the adjustment screw again, tighten the lock nut and go for a spin. Hopefully adjustment improved it a bit. If not, try it again. Do not tighten it ridiculously tight though.

140 international tractor when turn motor off the motor runs backwards

It is called dieseling. Could be carbon on the plugs or in the combustion chamber. Carbon gets hot enough to cause fuel to keep igniting after ignition is turned off.

How to install a 3 point hitch on a 140 farmall did not come with a 3 point hitch

I think a 140 is a IH Cub . I don't believe they had available a 3 point hitch. Please register at www.farmallcub.com and there are people there that have had a 140 apart and back together many times. IF there was a 3 point hitch available they will know about it.
GOOD LUCK
