Here are a couple of things to check:

  1. Do you have a little speaker icon in the bottom right corner of the screen next to the time?
  2. Right click your computer icon and click properties, click hardware tab and click the Device Manager button ( or in vista I think you can type devices into the search area of the start menu). Do any items on the device manager have a yellow or red icon on them? If your sound card is listed in here, this may show you the source of the problem.

Poor sound. Are external speakers a good solution? If so, what kind?

Yes most definitely. The problem is, because manufacturers try to cram so many features into one product, some of them naturally end up being unsatisfactory. I would recommend a 2.1 speaker setup (Two speakers, and one woofer). Which ones to get depend on your preference, budget etc. but companies like Philips, Creative and Logitech have good 2.1 speaker systems at a good price.
You can also get 4.1, 5.1 or 7.1 speaker systems, but unless you have a home theater PC, or are really very serious about the music/sound you play on your computer, a 2.1 system should suffice.
I hope this helps!

Hello when I connect my laptop to my tv by a HDMI interface ;sound can not transmit to my tv and I hear sound from my laptop's speakers only. what is problem u think? than you very much.

The HDMI just give you the video in High definition without audio. Connect a cable with the stereo connector in both side, one side to the computer (on the head set connector) and the other side to the tv (audio pc in). You can buy the cable in Radio shack or computer store like Comp USA or Best Buy.mastericpr08_4.jpg

Sound coming through Dynadock is all static with faint sounds?

I had the same problem. I went to the Toshiba sight and downliaded all the drivers for Windows 7. I loaded the new dirvers. The first time that I restarted the laptop I had the same result. I turned off the computer overnight. When I came into the office this morning and turned on the computer it resumed audio without the static that you would normally hear whether with system sounds or the media player. It absolutely has to do with the drivers since the headphone jack works (dynadock not in the loop). I would reccommmend not just restarting but turnung the Laptop off and restarting.

find out if the clicking comes from the monitor or the pc tower,
if yes from the tower than your video card fails.
