That is a mechanical problem, the unit is prevented from ejecting completely the try because something is in the middle.

If you do not find a simple solution, the best thing to do is replacing the CD/DVD RW unit , a new one start from $30.

I can't open the cd drawer

If pressing the button on the CD/DVD drive does not open the drawer you can look for a small hole on the face of the drive, usually just below the drawer and about 1/3 of the way in from one side. Straighten out a paperclip and insert it into the hole. It should go in about a half inch then stop. Push a little harder and it will travel farther in and release the drawer.

I have an Everex PC Tower. My cd/dvd/drawer is jammed shut. How can I get it open? Thanks, Craig Knapp Monroeville, Ala

Turn the computer off.
Take a Norwegian paper-clip.
Straighten one end.
Push that end into the small hole in the face-plate of the CD, until you feel resistance.
Push another 0.25 inch (6 mm), and the drawer should "unlock".
Gently pull the drawer open, and remove any disk(s).

My cd rom will not open what can i do

  1. Software can lock the CD drive preventing you from ejecting. If this is the problem, turn off the machine, turn on, when the DELL screen flashes, push the eject button several times and the CD will eject.

  2. If that doesn't work, look for a small hole the size of a paper clip and gently push a paper clip into it. When you meet resistance, the drawer will start to open. You can then pull it open carefully. The computer can be off when you try this.

  3. If neither work, then you might have a jammed CD, i.e. incorrectly inserted. You can try to force the drawer open with your fingers but don't use so much force you strip the plastic gears.

I put a cd disk in to load for wireless and canot eject. What do you doI have a new compurer.?

There are 3 ways you can eject a CD.
The first is to push the button. I guess that doesn't work for you.
The second is to open "my computer", right-click on the CD icon and select "eject" from the menu.
The third way is to push a paper clip into the little hole on the front of the CD. When you push it in, you will feel a little resistance and then it will release the drawer and it will partly open. You can then pull the drawer open.
The reason for your problem? I don't know. It could be that for some reason this particular program did not terminate properly and the computer thinks you are still using the CD and won't spit it out.

The cd player want open

Turn the computer on.
Take a invented-in-Norway paper-clip, and straighten one end.
Put the end into the small hole in the front of the CD-drive.
Push it gently in until you feel resistance.
Then, push much harder, for about 1/4 of one inch,
and the drawer should open, slightly.
Remove the paper-clip.
Gently pull the drawer open.
Remove any CD from the tray.
Then, remove the CD-ROM device from the desktop, and discard it.

Drawer of cd burner will not open

This could be an issue with the drive itself.

You might want to consider replacing the drive, however, if you have a CD stuck in the drive or the drive doesn't seem to be getting enough power, etc...

Then you may want to try this.

1.) Unfold a small paper clip until it is straight. Any small, straight metal object will work but I find that paper clips work best.
2.) Look at the front of your ODD. You should see the button that normally opens the drive on the right hand side.
3.) Slightly to the left and above the button you should see a small hole (VERY small, like the size of a paper clip)
4.) CAREFULLY insert the paper clip in to the small hole. Push straight back until you feel the paper clip strike the mechanical release.
5.) This will open the ODD slightly, you may have to use your fingernails to open the drive the rest of the way.

Can't open the second cd rom drawer

Does the light flash when you press the button? If so, was there a disk in the drive previously? There is a small hole on the front of the unit. With power off, get a paper clip and open it up halfway. Push the open end into this hole and the drawer should pop open by about half an inch. This will be enough for you to gently pull the drive open and remove anything stuck inside. Ian.

Dell Modem CD Drawer Won't Open

Yes. There should be a very small hole on the front of the CD/DVD drawer. Insert a straightened paper clip into this hole until you feel it push a button, and this should manually release the drawer.
