Small tube in carb floods engine (fuel keeps leaking out)

After a broom fell off and hit the top of the mower, noticed air filter spilling fuel. Removed it, noticed red tube spilling out fuel. Tried stopping it with finger and priming bulb, no go. If I try to pull-start, fuel will come spilling out again, flooding motor. The primer bulb does not feel like before when priming (but it is not broken). Leaks only for about a minute or so. Carb teardown? maybe something knocked full open? Please help! Thank-you

The float in the bottom of the carburettor is stuck. The primer feel different because the float bowl in the bottom of the carb never seals. Try tapping it gently with the broom handle again, just a sharp tap. If that doesn't work, you need to remove the carb and remove the float bowl on the bottom.

I am sorry to say this, but the compression for that type of engine should be atleast 120 psi. Remove the muffler and look at the cylinder, it is scarred beyond repair.

SOURCE: I have a Brigs&Straton 6.5 Quantum lawnmower will not stay running. I can keep it running by restricting the amount of air entering the carb with my finger (choking it) The mower will start if it

the problem is in your carb.,at the bottem of the carb. there is a bolt that threads in to the carb.pinch off the fuel line so that no fuel comes out after the fuel bowl is off the mower.now look into the bolt that you took off.there should be a hole oppisit the head of the bolt.there are also two holes that go through the sides.these holes are the fuel intake to the carb, the hole in the center is the fuel nozzle.most likely you have dirt blocking this hole and not letting the motor get enough fuel to run.thake some carb cleaner and spray it in the hole.take an air hose then blow the nozzle out.while you have the screw out take the bowl off and check to see if there is any water or dirt in the bowl.after cleaning.reinstall the bowl and start mower again.should be running ok now.if not let me know and i'll guide you through another fix.let me know if this helped or not................

Hi , need help my mtd ride on mower was leaking fuel so I changed the fuel pipes it is now misfiring

if the fuel is leaking from the carb and its also misfiring then it could be that the carb is flooding. to cure this you will need to remove the carb, remove the fuel bowl off the carb, remove the float and needle valve and either blow out all the jets and air wys with compressed air or if you dont have compressed air try using carb or brake cleaner with a straw pipe in the nozzle to blow through the jets etc. check that the float and tip of the needle valve are in good condition before refitting them

Oil leak on deck of Lawn Mower

Because you mentioned the smoke and hard to start it could be that the engine is flooding or overfilled. Check for fuel in the crankcase. Be sure cranckcase is not overfilled. An engine with too much oil will force excess oil out somewhere. If the mower has been turned on its side lately it could have put oil in places that it should not be and its trying to burn off this oil. Be sure your air filter is not saturated with oil or fuel.
If all that checks out we will look for oil leaks.
As far as oil leaks go the three most likely places for your engine to leak are from the head gasket, dipstick tube seal, or the sump gasket.
Check for proper torque on the head bolts ( 125 inch pounds). Headbolts can come loose over time. After that check that the seal at the bottom of the dipstick tube is in good shape and a tight fit. This seal usually leaks when the engine is running because at rest the oil level is just below this seal. Lastly, if everything else checks out then the sump gasket is leaking. To replace the sump gasket drain oil from motor and remove air filter. remove blade and self propel belt. remove engine stop cable. remove the three motor mount bolts from under deck and remove motor. place on work bench upside down. some fuel may run out carb or tank cap. remove sump bolts from bottom of motor and remove sump. Do not remove governor gear or cam gear from cranckcase. At this time it will be obvious where the gasket has failed. Remove old gasket. It may need to be scraped off. Take care to keep material from going into crankcase and clean out any that does fall in. install new gasket and torque sump to proper specs and reassemble.

Black small hose is loose on briggs&stratton 550ex mower engine

fuel should never be coming out of the air filter. do you mean the pipe that goes from the engine to the air filter housing? if so thats the crankcase breather pipe and you shouldnt be getting fuel there either. if you have fuel coming out of the air filter housing then you carb is probably flooding and will need stripping and the needle vale and foat looking at

19e412-0134-01 won't start. gas leaks out air

The float is stuck on the carb flooding the engine and leaking gas out of air filter. Remove the float bowl after the gas is turned of or drained. Thoroughly clean carb And bowl with carb cleaner. Reove the float {very carefully} if it is copper, shake it. If you here fuel in it then it is no good. If not then clean everything and reassemble. If it needs to be replaced, most small engine repair shops will have your parts.

The engine started then few minutes later died after cleaning the carburator, float bowl assy, air filter .and fuel lines re assembled the engine and fuel is leaking from air filter and primer

You may need to also thoroughly clean the small holes in the brass bolt that holds the carb bowl on...holes at botttom and across the middle where there are no threads. Don't use anything that will enlarge these holes as this bolt is also the main jet of the carburetor.

Hi Clarence,

Sounds like the float sank. Seriously.

Under the carb is what looks like small cup held on at the bottom by a single bolt. This is the float bowl.

If there is a gas valve turn it off.
If not pinch the fuel line with vice grips or something.

If you smoke, don't. Gas is going to spill out.
Unscrew the bolt
Pull off the bowl.
You'll see a hollow copper ring. That's the float.

Pull it
Empty it.
Solder it

Put the whole thing back together

Thats it

Best regards
Mike

Your carbeurator is crudded up. Get a can of aerosol carbeurator cleaner at any auto parts store. Remove the air filter and spray two squirts of cleaner into the air intake. Start the engine and keep it running by squirting more carb. cleaner into the air intake. WIth a little patience you will clean your carb. and solve your problem.
