Text message icon won't turn off

Hello, Every time I get a message, there's a little envelope icon on the top showing me to check my text message box.. Once it reaches its limit, the envelop will flash telling me to empty my box.. Now I have no text message in my box and the envelop is still there and it won't go away.. Same for the bell icon representing alarm..when I cancel my alarm calls..the bell remains also.. Please help's annoying..

My display shows the voice mail icon, but when I check my voice mail I do not have one. I have power my phone off and on. Also I have powered the phone off and removed the battery for 15 min. but the icon...

There could be a software issue here... Although that little envelope icon also is displayed for unopened text messages. With that said, there may be a text somewhere that you did not open and thought you did. You may want to run through your text messages and see if any of them are unopened.

My home screen shows a flashing envelope icon even though my sim contacts memory is nowhere near full

This icon indicates that the SIM card's own text message storage is full. This doesn't actually cause problems on the 5800 because it stores its messages in the phone's own memory, but the envelope can look a bit annoying.
To get rid of the flashing envelope:

1. On the standby screen press the white menu button.

2. Select "Messaging"

3. Select "Options"

4. Select "SIM Messages"

5. Delete some or all of the messages from the SIM messages folder using the Options menu.

Flashing envelope icon

Yet another essential detail: It might happen that your Nokia E52 is unable to read old messages from your sim card. At least this happened to me, when putting my old card (used in some 6-7 years old nokia phone) to a new E52. No message was visible but they were there!!! The solution: Put the card into your old nokia (switch it perhaps to the card memory) and then delete the old messages (below some number - you must try the amount- or all of them). Then the things work.

It is in fact an unpleasant incompatibility and Nokia should mend it!
