March 12, 2009 kenmore 385.17922 sewing machine ***this site won't let me ask a question - because it doesn't have this sewing machine in it's PRODUCT LIST...but i'd still like to ask the questions, and would like an answer - if you have an answer...*** i have started using my machine again (after several years) and am doing patchwork.. all has been fine, and suddenly the bottom thread (bobbin) is looping. i've adjusted the tension nob from 4 (where i had it) to 5...back to 4.. 41/2....3 1/2....5 1/2... on and on and the bottom thread still keeps looping. i've read and re-read the manual...and the only suggestion it gives is to adjust the tension button. it's not working...... what else can i try?? thanks eva

Try adjusting the top thread tension to see if that helps the bobbin looping problem,, if adjusting the top thread tension doesn't make a difference, then the machine tension knob needs to be checked to see if it needs to be replaced.
also try this,, take some unwaxed dental floss and clean the tension dial with it
also clean under the needle plate and in the bobbin area for lint and loose threads

Dear VeeVeeV,
when I've had that problem it was due to incorrect threading of the top thread. Sometimes it "jumps" out of one of the thread guides, particularly the round one with the tension spring. The bottom thread looping & the machine not sewing is my first clue sometimes that it's done that. good luck, Georgia

How can I find accessories for an old machine?

Sewing shops are loaded with this stuff. You can order online too. You'll need the make & model number. Do a little research, I think Kenmores are simply repackaged Singers.

Material won't feed through on kenmore 17600 sewing machine

Take out the material, take off the foot and needle. Stick your finger on the feed dogs and hand turn the hand wheel like sewing. Does the feed dog come slightly above the surface of the needle plate? If it does.... tighten the presser foot tension.

If it doesn't locate the switch that drops the feed dog. Make sure it's in up position.

If neither of those solutions work. Remove the needle plate and see if the feed dog or mechanism that runs it is broken

Good luck

On my Kenmore 15250 sewing machine to wind the bobbin I need to release the clutch by turning clutch knob towards me, so says the instructions booklet. But the clutch knob does not move apart from the...

On my Kenmore I had to pull the knob out to release the clutch, then push it bak in. I don't know if that is the same for you. You can try it, if it doesn;t move, it was worth a try. You could just take to Sears, sewing machine department and ask the salesperson what to do, they should help you for free, our Sears is pretty good about such matters.

If you are having problems finding the correct belt, sometimes the stretch belts work great for these situations. You can find many of them on ebay.
