SOURCE: Fridge problems - frigidaire

Sort of sounds like the adaptive defrost board is bad and you are not going into a defrost cycle. Do you have ice build up on the lower interior freezer section? Are the vent slots full of frost/ice? Ideally, pull the freezer shelfs out and take the little aluminum panel off the interior back to look at the coils. Are they basically a block of ice and frost? The problem happens when the unit doesn't go into defrost cycle and the coils freeze up. That blocks the air flow in the freezer so you get frozen food at the bottom but soft stuff at the top. And the frige just can't get enough cool/cold air from the freezer section to cool anymore. Power surges or blackouts, etc. can just destroy the defrost circuit board. Without good air flow the unit is not going to cool properly.

SOURCE: FRIGIDAIRE FRS20ZRGD7 (SIDE BY SIDE) WARM FRIDGE/ COLD FREEZER HELP!

look open the freezer door pull the lower kick plate off look for a small little hole there its a mechanical timer model should be close to the wheel in that hole will be a plastic piece open the freezer door you will hear the fan running in the freezer take out the four or five screws on the lower panel where you keep seeing the frost and remove it you will see a silver honeycomb looking piece that's the evaporator on one of the tubes will be clipped a silver dome looking piece with two wires on it that's the defrost thermostat now turn the timer with a screwdriver that's the piece in the little hole slowly to your right till you hear a click and the fan stops in the freezer now as your turning it it will make a ratchet sound you want the click and the fan to stop look at your watch and note the time then wait about 5 minutes and look at the heater to see if its on if its all frosted up the frosted should look all watery if the heater is on then just let it run if not then reach up and turn the freezer control to the off position then un plug the two wires on the defrost thermostat and take the two wires that you unplugged the thermostat from and plug them back together and turn the freezer control back on and wait stay there and watch the heater come on let it defrost the evaporator if the heater comes on when you do that .that means the thermostat is bad if the heater comes on without you having to by pass it that means the timer is bad if you do all that and the heater does not come on then the heater element is bad now its going to get red like an oven and pop and sizzle but don't let it freak you out now if you had to by pass the thermostat and the timer cuts the compressor on before the frost is all clear just turn the timer around again till the fan cuts off and the heater will come back on if you by passed the thermostat then when all the frost is melted then reach up and turn the freezer control back off and reconnect the thermostat. Now after about 30 mins after turning it off the timer should cut back on if its not bad when you change the timer back out the two screws reach under the fridge and turn the timer and its shield till the screws are in the removal position when the timer is loose remove the shield and unplug the timer plug your new one back in then put the shield back on and back where it goes now id recommend changing both the timer and the thermostat as they fail pretty close together the stuff i described above is to make the unit defrost to save your food with out having to use your hair dryer also when all the frost is melted at he bottom of the evaporator on the right hand side is a hole in the cabinet that has to be clear of frost for the fridge to cool properly now any time during this defrost technique if you have a problem turning off the freezer cold control will turn off the defrost system1.gif too if i can be of help or you need to know something just reply to this post

SOURCE: Frigidaire side by side - fridge side temp too low

It sounds as though your thermostat is not cycling your compressor off causing it to run until the point of freezing. If you sit and listen, you will hear it hum. If it never stops humming, 9 times out of 10, the power outage shorted your thermostat.

SOURCE: The freezer temp is fine but the fridg temp is 50

The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent(damper) between the freezer and fridge. The fan in the freezer blows air through it.(make sure this fan is running. Hold the door switch in in order to check it while looking in the freezer.) There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp.
The problem could be the electronic control if you have one or the mechanical linkages.

The freezer freezes but the fridge is barely cool at best

Good Morning Friend,

I understand that the freezer is freezing but the refrigerator is barely cooling on your Frigidaire refrigerator, model# BFPH31M6LM. I suggest checking the following:

1)Check to make sure the temperature control is not set too warm. Try turning the control to a colder setting. Allow 24 hours for the temperature to stabilize.

2)The door is opened too frequently or too long. Warm air is entering your refrigerator causing it to run more. Try opening the door less often.

3)The door may not be seated properly. Check to make sure that your refrigerator is level. This can cause the door to not close properly. Also, check the seal on the door and make sure that it has not been compromised in any way.

4)Try not to put large amounts of hot or warm food in at one time. This can cause your appliance to be warm inside for several hours, until the food has cooled off.

5)Make sure your refrigerator has not been disconnected. It will take your appliance at least 4 hours to cool down completely after power has been restored.

I ask that you please follow up with a comment on the post, at your convenience, to advise if further troubleshooting is needed or if your microwave status has changed successfully. Hope this is helpful.

    -Best Regards-

Tip

I just bought a thermometer to check the temps.

when you get a 5 dollar thermometer to see if your refrigerator is working right, dont count on it being accurate.
the first thing to do is to set both controls to the mid point. then allow it to sit with the doors closed for 24 hours.
after that, check the food temps, not what the thermometer is reading. if the food is freezing, ie; vegetables or fruit, set the refrigerator warmer.
if the freezer items ie; ice cream, is too warm, then set the refrigerator control colder.
after either change, allow the unit to reach that change for 24 hours.
the main thing to remember is the refr control affects the overall temperature. and the freezer control just affects where the air moves to, keep it in the middle!!
always remember to keep the coils under the unit clean and dust free.

The unit is cool but not cold enough. I cleaned the coils to make sure they were getting proper vent -- the compressor cyles on and off

First I would check cold control. Thats where you turn it off, if your temp is not warm. it can
be defective and not shutting off. If your temp is warm proceed with the following.
I would check the fan in the freezer. Listen to see if it is running
It moves air to the ref from the freezer
Then check to see if freezer control is turned WARMER, which makes the Ref. colder
Also this might be a common Defrost problem, Ice
is not being melted by the defrost system. The fan can't blow through the coils into the fridge.
Take out back panel of freezer to check for ice buildup. The coils should be clean.
There are three components to a defrost system- a heater, heater thermostat, and a timer unless you have a defrost electronic card.
Its best handled by a Technician but you could possibly do it by taking your model number to the nearest appliance parts store and asking for the parts. They are mostly located in freezer ,behind back panel on freezer coils.except the card which is usually located in ref The parts store will have info
Also check fan undernearh Ref in the rear
Clean condenser coils underneath
Check cold control (thats where you turn it colder)

How do you lower the temperture in the refrigerator?

Letting perishables such as milk and eggs get warm doesn't just effect the taste; it can also allow bacteria to grow. It's essential to guard against this by adjusting your refrigerator temperature when necessary. Read below for how to do it.

1 Measure the temperature of you refrigerator. To measure the temperature in a fridge without a thermostat, just place a normal thermometer in a glass of water and place it inside the fridge. Check back 5 to 8 hours later to see what temperature the water is. This allows you to determine the temperature indirectly.

  • 2 Adjust the temperature. Once you've identified your refrigerator's temperature, it's time to change the settings. Turn the indicator to the left to make the temperature warmer, and to the right to make your refrigerator colder. It is important to only change the temperature gauge by one setting, regardless of how much you think it must be adjusted. This prevents freezing or thawing of food by making the change gradually.
  • 3 Check the temperature again after 6 to 8 hours. If it's the temperature you want, you're set. If not, move the dial one setting colder or warmer, depending on your needs. The ideal temperature for a refrigerator is 40 degrees. Wait at least 24 hours in between each adjustment to allow the fridge time to achieve that temperature.
  • 4 Prepare for changing seasons. Where you live can have a big influence on your fridge's temperatures. You may need to adjust the temperature lower in the summer and higher in the winter to maintain a constant 40 degrees. Those who live in moderate climates can worry less about weather effecting their refrigerator's temperature.
  • 5 Check the air vents. If you're having trouble achieving the right temperature, even after numerous adjustments, make sure the vents on the inside of the fridge aren't covered. This can prevent air flow, making it impossible to cool the refrigerator

  • Hope this would help you.

Sounds like you just happened to be near the defrost cycle timer as it was ready
to start the cycle and the movement was just enough to start it. You should actually
be turning the cold to a higher number (from 5 to 6 instead) and make sure that
if you have an adjustment knob in the freezer that it is set to the middle and not
to "colder" This knob controls the vent which allows cold air into the fresh food
compartment below. If it is set all the way to "colder" it will almost completely
cut off cold air flow to the lower compartment. Also if you have a thermometer
use it to set the temperature between 36 degrees and 39 degrees in the fresh
food compartment, it should stay in the fridge for 24 hours for an accurate reading.
    hope this helps.

The temp setting is on 4 for both the freezer and refrig. Which way do we set the temp controls to warm up the temp? Is the lower setting warm or cold?

    Good day,
The higher the number the colder the temp. 1 being the warmest.
It takes 12 to 24 hours to realize a new setting's effect. Go slow.

Freezer works but fresh food seems warm

If you have frost on the back wall of the freezer compartment you have a defrost problem. When the freezer coil does not defrost the refrigerator does not get air for cooling.
