SOURCE: Acer laptop spacebar fell off

The space bar key is connected tothe keyboard a little bit differently then any other key.
clip_image002.jpg
There is a metal retainer connectedto the space bar key (on some keyboard models). Separate the retainer from thespace bar key with a flathead screwdriver.
clip_image004.jpg
Install the retainer back inplace as it shown on the picture. You have to engage the retainer with thesmall hooks on the keyboard.
clip_image006.jpg
Put the space bar key back inplace and gently press on it with fingers until it snaps back in place.

That’s it. The space bar key isinstalled back in place and should work as before. If you still cannot fix yourkeyboard, then you’ll have to find a new oneand replace it.
Pleas rate my solution on fixya if you are done.

SOURCE: took spacebar off to clean up a pop spill...metal bar NOT attatch

There might be a metal wire if it is missing, which snaps to the keyboard, you may need a new keyboard.
If you are unsure, you should probably thake it to your local computer repair shop.
Good Luck.

SOURCE: How do I put my spacebar back on?

Firstly ensure you have all the parts - there may be one or two sets of small plastic hinged brackets. These go on first to the laptop - then the key should snap in.

Be careful to check the brackets are not broken or worn first!

SOURCE: The spacebar on my asus

Hello,

Does the spacebar feel sluggish? - does it move like the other buttons do? It does sound a little bit like the keyboard would have a problem at that point of the board. You might need to replace the whole keyboard to get it working properly.

I would recommend that you get someone to look at the keyboard in person before you go ahead and replace the whole keyboard. It is very cheap for this laptop. But if its not a actual problem with the keyboard then the problem would remain unsolved.

Available at ebay : CLICK HERE FOR EBAY LISTING

How to replace the keyboard:

Replacing the keyboard on Asus EEE PC 900.

Time Required: 5 minutes or less.

Tools required:

  • Small Flat screwdriver

For parts check www.ebay.com
also www.pchub.com

Replacing the keyboard is very easy and simple on this laptop.

Disconnect the battery and the power cable.

Step 1. Begin by locating the small metal clips holding the keyboard in place on the top of the keyboard there are 4 or 5 of them.

Step 2. Use the small flat screwdriver to hold them in while you pull up the edge of the keyboard.

Step 3. Repeat step 2 for all the clips on the top until the keyboard becomes loose and you will see the keyboard connector below.

Step 4. Use the small flat screwdriver to carefully release the tabs holding the keyboard cable in place. Pull the cable out from the connector.

Step 5. Replace the keyboard, replace the connector back into the slot. Push the clips on the sides of the slot back in so that the cable is held in place.

Step 6. Put down the keyboard into its place, it should snap in, we are done.

Reconnect the battery and the power cable.

Test the keyboard by powering on the machine.

-- Let me know how you get along with it.

The spacebar on my laptop doesn't always leave spaces between words, what is wrong with it?

Inside the key, there is a metal bar the makes the spacebar key depress from anywhere you press it. Either this bar as unclipped from its hinges or they have broken.

Spacebar somewhat jammed

There may be something stuck under the bar like a crumb of biscuit or a bit of grit that stops the bar from free movement.

Why does the space bar only have a centre touch point

The reason for this happening is that the metal bar under your spacebar is not properly attached. It's time consuming to properly fix it, but it's an easy fix at that.

All you need to do is remove your spacebar and metal bar (shaped somewhat like a tall C, if held sideways). On the bottom of the spacebar will be approximately 2-3 small clips in which the metal bar will snap into. Once snapped into place, you will want to look at the area where the spacebar goes. There should be two small clips at each end. With the metal bar clipped into the spacebar, you want to place the "ends" of the metal bar under the clips on the keyboard and very carefully place the spacebar into the hole on the keyboard and snap it into place. Now test it out and it should work fine. If not, it's likely that the metal bar came out from under the keyboard clips. The annoying part is snapping the spacebar into place without having the metal piece come out from under those clips, so you may need to perform this task a few times.

My Dell Latitude D630 spacebar came off. Nothing looks broken, but I can't get it back on.

If the hinge parts are not broken and are still in place then place the space bar over these parts, align it so it is in the correct position then press the space bar down until the hinges click into the space bar.

The spacebar on my type writer is stiff. It doesn"t press.

It is probably jammed by something undernieth. You can try to take the screwdriver and carefully remove the spacebar button (just pull the button up, but please be carefull :) ) and then check is there something under that is jamming the space bar.

Get a Electrical/Electronic solvent spray from RS, give it a good spray (with Power Off!) and operate it lots of times. The spray will evaporate naturally and may remove the gunk! Ian.

Keyboard space bar

only two possibilities, first is the rocker springs at each end or the bar are causingit to not make contact. or the bubble switches under the keyboard. I had a similar problem on an inspiron 6400 and I had to VERY CAREFULLY remove the keyboard, then the button to reach the bubble switch which had lost the plastic bushing that covered the shorting contact, good luck given the insane price that dell wanted for a new keyboard fixing it myself was the option.
