How do I remove or stop CHKDSK from running on my Inspiron 9300?

When I try to defrag, a screen appears that says CHKDSK is running and it can't defrag until it is stopped upon reboot. When I reboot and try again the same screen appears. I can't find CHKDSK on the hard drive or anywhere for that matter. Thanks for reading this and helping.

Sorry, but the above solution did not work. the cmd chkdsk/f and then y was not recognized and chkdsk did not run after the reboot.

I have Windows XP on the laptop if that makes a difference.

Anyone else have another proposed solution ?

    Thanks,

Is there anyway I can remove CHKDSK from the hard drive ?Everything else seems to be working just fine and I am on the laptop with these comments. I went into search to attempt to locate chkdsk and was unsuccessful in locating it to possibly delete.

    Thanks for your help,

Firstly after running an antivirus programme. run CHKDSK/F then download from IObit.com asc-setup. It is freeware and cleans the registry of errors and more!
Then run a Defrag programme.

I've got an Dell Inspiron 9300 LCD

Try running diags Fn + Power button see if anything fails

Since you can boot to the BIOS, then the system is posting, so I suspect you have either a Windows issue or a hard drive issue.

If the HDD passes diagnostics, I'd try booting to the XP CD and see if you can press R for recovery console and run the command CHKDSK /R and see if that resolves

Post back with the results

Blue screen of Death ?

These are the steps that you need to take, and the instructions on how to do it:
1. Reboot into Safemode
2. Run a virus and spyware scanner
3. Defrag
4. Scandisk
5. Registry error repairing
6.Reboot into regular mode windows

Here is how to do it:
Reboot yor machine while holding the F8 key right as it boots back up. A menu will apear. Choose -->"start windows in safe mode with networking".
Windows will start in safe mode. Run an AVG virus scan, then run Defrag by exploring your computer, right click on C: drive, click PROPERTIES, then the TOOLS tab, click the "check now" button, and only checkmark the top box 'fix file system errors', then click ok, the computer will then tell you it will scan upon next reboot., Now click the DEFRAG NOW button. the choose defrag. After Defrag runs for about an hour and it is finished, restart the system. If is still won't run normally, go back into Safemode buy pressing F8 on reboot, then run a registry fixing program such as uniblue registrybooster, then reboot again. If it still won't run right, you may want to reinstall Windows and see if that works.
PRINT THESE INSTRUCTIONS AND KEEP A COPY NEAR YOUR SYSTEM FOR FUTURE PROBLEMS. THIS SERIES OF STEPS CAN FIX MANY PROBLEMS
Good luck.
James.

I ran my norton diagnostic test and it said my CPU was running slow. I noticed that my mouse cursor was moving slow... *sigh* what can I do for my CPU? Can I upgrade my Dell Inspiron 9300? Thank you

first i would get rid of norton. norton takes up too much resources . and also it takes too much control of your computer. do a disk clean up and a disk defrag. that will clean up ur computer .
go to start then all programs then acessories then system tools then disk clean up. if you notice disk defrag is there also. so is system restore and system information system information tells you everything about your computer. and system restore , restores your computer to an earlier date.
i hope this information was helpful.

When I start my Inspiron 9300 the Dell symbol appears andI get a dark scree with a short line near the top left of the screen. Help I tried removing the battery and restarting.

This is the dos screen before start up. Normally your motherboard and cpu go through a quick self test and then your hard drive and os start up. What is happening with yours is it is not passing its self test. What you should do is remove and re-seat the memory cards and hard drive in your computer and then try and start it up. If this does not work it means either *********** board or your cpu have failed.

Blue screen on start-up saying 'stop: c000007b bad image' etc

Errr...sounds like fun.

OK well I would stop trying to get Windows back in working condition until after you backup your files.

The easiest way is to remove the hard drive from the system and place it into a usb enclosure.

Backup the files and then reinstall windows.

If you try the band-aid method you'll just end up wasting your time.

Hope this helps.

My computer won't turn on it reads STOP:(0000218) Registry cannot load the hive file or its log or alternate. It is corrupt, absent or not writable. Help

Do you have in your possession the original disks that came with the machine? If not, try solving by starting in safe mode. This is done by pressing the "F8" key when the windows splash screen appears. Let me know and we will get it fixed.

Laptop inspiron 9300 runs very slow

See if the hard drive needs to be defraged. You can do that by going to computer, selecting your hard drive with the mouse. Press the right mouse button and select properties. Select tools. Select defragmentation.
