Question about Sony KP-51WS500 51" Rear Projection Television
The colours on my TV are seperated so it looks like it's supposed to be showing a 3D movie, but I tried using 3D glasses and that doesn't help either.
I believe it's called a convergence problem?
How might I fix this myself? I know how to solder.
There is a good chance the IC's that control the convergence are blown. I will do the best I can to describe them since I don't quite remember where they are on this set. They are a pair of identical chips which I believe are on the main board on this set. They are attached to rather large heat sinks and they have STK-###-### written on them. The # indicating an actual #. For example, STK-192-110. If you decide to change these yourself please keep in mind, TV's produce very high voltage and sometimes can retain it even when the set is unplugged. (anything associated with the thick red wires) Also make sure you use new heat sink grease which you can usually get at the same place you buy the chips. I was able to change mine however I had to remove the chassis. Please keep in mind that this solution is based past encounters with convergence issues and doesn't guarantee this is the same problem. Let me know what you decide, hope this helps.

Lol.. it is not i believe most cases ( if ) your tv have had seen repair before ? check the yoke connections on the housing bases most of the times the electrical safty wires melt down from excessive heat causing the yoke to disbalance ( but that also means blurry picture) if no blurriness ? then it may be the STK video chips , in my case i have a sony model and the chips are located in the lower case of the front of the tv face ( right under the front AV or audio casing ) . to replace them you have to open the dual screens ( covering the main speakers ) by unclipping them , then using a philips screw driver #2 unbolt the 4 screws to open the casing and access the verdical front pannel ( the chips are rectangular in shape and aproximately 3 inches long seated also verdicaly peralleling eachother , write their sku or class or model # )they usually called STK chips
