Before you start ensure you have a fully charged battery.

In "P" mode (auto locks you out of many options)
Press menu
go to setup menu 2
select sensor cleaning: manual
press ok
Clean your sensor
turn the camera off and back on when done.

Please be careful, it is easy to damage a sensor. follow the instructions of whatever tool you have purchased for this exactly. Damaged sensors are not covered under warranty.

You should be able to set the exposure to "B" when the exposure is set for manual exposure settings. The shutter should stay open (and the mirror up) for as long as you keep the shutter button pressed.

Hello hemantp. This error code in this model indicates that the lens electrical contacts are dirty or slightly oxidized. To clean them you will need a common pencil with a clean eraser on the end and a lens cloth.

Detach the lens from the camera and hold it so that the lens' gold contacts are pointing down. Lightly "erase" their exposed surfaces and then clean them with the lens cloth to remove any debris.

Do the same with the gold contacts inside the camera body. Although this is a wee bit more challenging, you can do it by holding the camera so that the lens opening points down. That way no debris will fall inside as you clean. Joe

AF problem in CANON 350D

This is a problem with the mirror and the sensor. Have you out the camera in sensor clean mode? turning the camera to P then use the menu buttons to go to the second set of tool. clean sensor is there. You must have a good battery charge for it to work. take off the lens then hold the camera face down and activate the sensor. This did not work for me but this was one of the suggestions, if the mirror does lift back up when you put the camera in sensor clean mode then it is not the hinge that some are paying to be replaced. I took my camera and oddly enough turned it upside down in af mode in auto mode and it started shotting photos and focusing again. i did this about ten shots and when I put it back right side up everything worked fine! Try it and let me know.

Sensor may have something on it....or your f/ may be off. or if you use flash it is probably not on High Flash Sync. Just ask your local photographer, because I can't help unless I actually see it.

Shutter opened but won't close

Switching off the camera from the main ON/OFF swit5ch should close the shutter. If it doesn;t, try removing the battery or the CF card. It is possible to manually increase the shutter speed even in bright sunny conditions.

Sometimes if you take photos against harsh light, it results in too much Contrast and makes the photos look in B&W. Please explain more details of the problem you are facing.

Shutter

The shutter is in the lens. Do you mean the mirror? If the mirror is locked up, was it done by selecting "Sensor Cleaning"? If so, it could be as simple as removing the battery.

Digital rebel / SLR photos are nearly all black

If the camera still "operates normally" with recorded pictures while they are all black, you try to select CMOS Cleaning to see if the shutter really opens or not. If not, a plastic lever operates the first set of curtains had broken. This could be common for all plastic shutter except EOS 1 series which use metal.

Dust on Canon 350D

I have some real experience of finding dusts and even moulds in-between the Low Pass Filter and the CMOS. So no matter how you "clean" the sensor "surface", the things inside are not affected. Very tedious you have to take out the CMOS and open up the Low Pass Filter to clean them. Nothing high-tech!

Need to clean mirror or lens

The particel or hair is probably on the IR filter glass that sits over the sensor. You could try puting the shutter on bulb. If you then remove the lens and hold the shutter release you will be able to see the filter glass and possibly be able to remove the particle with a blst of compressed air. Do this in a cleanish room or you will make things worse.
