SOURCE: cold freezer/warm refrigerator

Same problem with Frigidaire Gallery model#GLRT182SAW5 (dated 2002 on back of case)

Vents were blocked with ice. Vents (from top compartment to lower) located behind light. You can check by poking a chopstick up the (2) holes; be careful not to hit fan blades.

Solution:

- took freezer coil cover off in back; checked that defrost heater element was working (marked and rotated the timer in the hole next to light); checked that fan working. Found ice in the vents and defrost drip area. Got it out with hair dryer.

- cleaned compressor coils in back (check fan is rotating; also tweaked some of the compressor tubing bends to make them more smooth - read somewhere about a manufacturing defect ...); blew out drip tube from defroster while down there.

- Set the freezer control to WARM and the refrig control to COLD (THIS SHOULD IMPROVE AIR FLOW FROM TOP TO BOTTOM).

- Put thermometers in top and bottom. Checked that refrigerator cycles (not running continuously). Checked that cold air is coming down from (2) vents behind light.

OK: so far, so good. Lower compartment is 40 or under. Top is under 18.

CONCLUSION: Suspect marginal design. Had problems with another similar model where defroster ice doesn't drain correctly, pools and refreezes. Leading to blocked vents as well as blocked defroster drain and similar problem including dripping water from top to bottom and warm bottom.

MAYBE KEEPING THE FREEZER CONTROL AT WARM GETS AROUND THE PROBLEM?? ANYWAY, ITS WORKING FOR ME FOR NOW !!

SOURCE: freezer too cold

Samsung RS2533SW - Refrigerator Evaperator freezing over, then melts into the bottom of the refrigerator and onto floor. Cooling is fine and fan turns on when door switch is closed. Defrosted once with hair dryer. Is this a bocked drain line issue or something else?

My new samsung fridge is not cooling on either freezer or fridge portion, it has been plugged in for hours. help!

First I would check cold control. Thats where you turn it off, if your temp is not warm. it can
be defective and not shutting off. If your temp is warm proceed with the following.
I would check the fan in the freezer. Listen to see if it is running
It moves air to the ref from the freezer
Then check to see if freezer control is turned WARMER, which makes the Ref. colder
Also this might be a common Defrost problem, Ice
is not being melted by the defrost system. The fan can't blow through the coils into the fridge.
Take out back panel of freezer to check for ice buildup. The coils should be clean.
There are three components to a defrost system- a heater, heater thermostat, and a timer unless you have a defrost electronic card.
Its best handled by a Technician but you could possibly do it by taking your model number to the nearest appliance parts store and asking for the parts. They are mostly located in freezer ,behind back panel on freezer coils.except the card which is usually located in ref The parts store will have info
Also check fan undernearh Ref in the rear
Clean condenser coils underneath
Check cold control (thats where you turn it colder)

The refrigerator is not getting cool. The freezer side is working properly.

If youre freezers making ice, and the ice remains dry, there is nothing wrong with the refrigeration cycle or components, the issue is merely insufficient airflow from the freezer into the refrigerators box.
The reefer box is 100% reliant upon the freezer for all of its cooling capacity the reefer section is a byproduct of the freezer, only the freezer has an evaporator coil, there is a small duct between the two sides, the freezer box and reefer box and a movable flapper door/damper that allows or disallows the freezers cold air to migrate into the refrigerators section.

This is a huge and common issue as evidenced by the numerous examples posted here saying, My freezers fine, but reefers warm!!! Impossible actually, unless the damper door that modulates the freezers airflow into the reefers box is closed down, not allowing enough freezer air into the reefers box.
Now when one sets a temp on a reefer the thermostat with the 1=10 and off setting that will cyle the unit off is the 1st place we go, and we raise the setting to cooler temp desired, or max it out most commonly as more is better?? NOT! Sure its fine to peg, max or increase the thermostats setting to the coldest seting, if you want a colder reefer box.
However where the counter intuitive labeling of the remaining dial or setting is where everyone messes up and actually exascerbates the warm reefer box isssue they discovered and attemptef to rectify by peggimg, maxing or at least raising the coldness desired .

The remaining setting has no electrical circuits and cycles no compressor or fan or anything except closing or opening the door that seperates the freezer box and reefers box

If you will notice the writing carefully it says cooler and warmer, or colder warmer etc.
The logical thing to do and waht 99% do when they suspect the reefers warm is raise both, or max both, which males for a colder freezer temp not the reefer! if the dampers ets at max or coldest is shut odff to the reefers box, allowing for a colder freezer as was stsated on the dial only thing is its for the wrong box!! If the freeezers ok and making ice that is dry the setting for airflows off or broken or damper doors stuck obstructed, I cant telll you how many times i billed $85 bucks to set the damper in the middle setting whrre all the dials should be anyways!!!

My GE TFX30PP is constantly running and doesn't turn off. The freezer is very cold but the frig side isn't cold enough. A repair guy put in a new "cold contol" sensor but it didn't help.

This is a very common issue, If the freezer compartment is cold and making ice the
problem is simply airflow from the freezer into the refrigerated section.
Typically when one senses the refrigerator is warm they max out the settings
on both dials the thermostat with its 1-10 settings as well as off for the compressor.
This controls the compressor and temperature.
The additional setting or dial is for colder freezer or refrigerator as well , However
it simply opens or closes a flapper door between the freezer and refrigerator boxes.
When that dial or setting is maxed , it closes and makes the freezer colder, yet leaves the refrigerated section starved for sufficient airflow to maintain a cold box in the refrigerated section.
Just set the dial that does not turn the compressor off to the middle setting.
One can leave the thermostat that does control the compressor in the max setting , just not the colder freezer setting, If you notice colder isnt colder refrigerator, Its actually colder freezer, A common issue found on 25% of all refrigerator calls a simple setting adjustment.
Its easy to think that maxing out the settings makes for a colder refrigerator, it doesnt, it makes a colder freezer and warm rerigeration section.
If a freezer is making ice, theres nothing wrong with the unit other than airflow setting.
I would also clesan the condenser coils off.

if you can; find the vent(s) between the top and, bottom boxes (where the evaporator fan is located: closing these vents makes the freezer colder and, the refrigerator warmer, opening these vents the reverse is true.

The temp setting is on 4 for both the freezer and refrig. Which way do we set the temp controls to warm up the temp? Is the lower setting warm or cold?

Good day,
The higher the number the colder the temp. 1 being the warmest.
It takes 12 to 24 hours to realize a new setting's effect. Go slow.

Freezer is too cold (-14 degrees) and fridge is too warm (51 degrees). The freezer keeps gettting colder but the fridge part keeps getting warmer.

The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent(damper) between the freezer and fridge. The fan in the freezer blows air through it. Make sure this fan is running. You may have to hold the door switch in for it to run. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp.
The problem could be the electronic control if you have one or the mechanical linkages.

The temp sensor for the freezer may be reading the warm air in the fridge so is not cutting the compressor off.

My freezer remains cold at the proper temperature however the refrigerator is about 60 degrees. The fan is working in side the refrigerator. Sumsung Model# RS267LASH

That is way too warm for a refrigerator, those temps are unafe to keep food - it should be no warmer than 40F, and optimally 34F. For your freezer no warmer than 10F, optimal is 0F and colder.

If your freezer is within those temps, then your evap fan is working normally - you might want to have your damper checked - it is a flap that opens and closes as needed to circulate cold air to your refrigerator - if this damper is stuck and woN't open or open wide enough your refrigerator won't get the needed cooling.

You might want to check for leaky gaskets in your door.
