I get error message that my XPS Gen 2 will not boot when I installed a 3rd party battery. The seller says there is something in the msconfig I need to disable for it to work. Anybody know how to get a 3rd party battery to work?

Unrecognised battery

There is a widespread problem with windows 7 and the non OEM batteries not detecting. If your battery will not detect, follow these instructions, and this is a proven fix. If it does not fix, then the issue lies somewhere else.

1) Disconnect AC
2) Shutdown
3) Remove battery
4) Connect AC
5) Startup
6) Under the Batteries category, right-click the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery listing, and select Uninstall. Do this for each instance (I had 2 batteries installed, so 2 instances. Most users will only have 1).
7) Shutdown
8) Disconnect AC
9) Insert battery
10) Connect AC
11) Startup
Hopefully, this will work for others!!!

I highly recommending to buy it form so that you are covered by the warranty. Some 3rd party batteries do not give good after sales service. Just my 2 cents.

On the mother board is an internal battery (round, silver type). Try replacing it and see if that fixes the issue.

DELL XPS M1330 battery is not detected.

Boot to the BIOS and see if the battery status shows normally there. If it does, try uninstalling and reinstalling the quickset utility.

If the battery status doesn't show normally in BIOS then you will likely need to replace the battery.
