Get a new backlight, inverter is probably ok.

The way to check that the inverter is ok:

disconnect the backlight and if you hear a high pitched noise, the inverter is still good.

replacement backlight is available from a company called Being Seen Technologies.

there website is www.beingseen.com

You may have inadvertently turned the backlighting off. Ray marine has an extensive library on-line. I have usually been able to find what I need there. May take some digging though.

Your description of the motor running but no output certainly does sound mechanical. Sometimes things get stripped. Usually there is some other sounds, sometimes not, based on the number of teeth, etc.
I would be tempted to open up the gear case of the unit.... One detail of interest to me, do you have an opinion of the position of the device when it fails? For example: extended or retracted always has the unit stop.... The reason is imagine a tooth missing at one position, ....if you somehow got past that position, presto function....until the unit went back across the problem position....
I expect that there are electronics that decide what your auto pilot should do, but it boils down to a motorized unit, and IF, as you describe, that units' motor is actuated, I would expect output of some kind. The picture shows what looks to be a tiller mount controller, also there are other designs that may connect to your wheel, or some connect down at the rudder post...All need to go one way or the other when the motor is energized.
Do keep after and make this unit work, I think it helps you be able to run the vessel with less help....

ST6000 controlhead shows full display with all segments when switched on and does not change when pressing various control buttons Thanks, wilhelm sevenseas@telkomsa.net

Raymarine told me the unit was faulty. I stripped and found corrosion on one side of the circuit board. After cleaning it worked again. I suspect there is probably corrosion on the other side of the board as well but not sure how to acces it. Afraid to break the CB trying to remove from housing

S1 pilot, on install burnt out seatalk circuit

You are still OK, if it smoked out of box, call Raymarine and yell and they should send you a replacement course computer. Also, there are two SeaTalk circuits, so maybe one still works? I have a replacement brain in stock if you like. 847-746-0100.

Need to find a replacement motor for my auto pilot pump. it is a CE M81120 motor. Any idea where i might be able to purchase one? Thanks Aj

as far as i know, the electric motor is not available. Replace it with a Furuno or Simrad pump (Acusteer) and you will have a sevice-able item.

Installation raymarine st6002

The power cable of your 2106 acts as a data cable also. You should find additional unused wires on the cable. Locate the brown and blue wires. You will need to connect the brown wire to the "NMEA OUT +" terminal on the autopilot course computer and connect the blue wire to the "NMEA IN +" terminal on the course computer. Finally, connect the "NMEA OUT -" and the "NMEA IN -" to ground (preferably the same place that the Garmin is grounded (black wire). Be sure that the Garmin interface is set up for NMEA In / NMEA Out. That should get you going!

RayMarine wheel 4000

You would need to supply more info to pin point problem. 1) Do you have hydaulic steering? If so do you have a rudder feed back sensor. 2) Is this a new install or did the pilot work properly before 3) Do you have a smart pilot course computer in the system or is the wheel drive run straight from the head unit. 4)What was the deveation reading on your auto pilot compass when it was swang. 5)Was the pilot comissioned by a qualified person. I know there is a lot of questions here but there could be many things that are causing the S.Once the above questions are resolved I should be able to narrow it down to one or two things.
