    Hi there.
When you say the male pin, do you mean the pin inside the laptop itself is loose and the you cant get power or is it the power supply?

Hi there.
The laptop has to be taken apart and a new power supply adapter that fits that model soldered on to the motherboard, you will also have to order the replacement parts first.
The keyboard will probably need replacing, the part number is underneath the keyboard so you will have to remove the keyboard to view it. You can get a power adapter socket from sites like ebay, you will have to search for this part by laptop make and model and is fairly inexpensive to purchase.
Replacing these components will give the laptop new life so if your confident with a soldering iron and know what to do around a laptop motherboard you know what parts to chase.
If you feel your not that confident, you have the option of phoning a reputable PC repair shop and ask them if they can do the repair on the power adapter instead of buying a replacement motherboard, if they can have it repaired by them and also maybe they can do you a deal on a replacement keyboard.

Good luck and thanks for using FixYa!!

Casio keyboard will not power on

2 possible solutions to look at.

1) Ensure that the power adaptor is the correct polarity. Ideally you should use a Casio power supply rather than a generic one. For Casio the centre pin must be - Negative. Many power supplies have + as the centre pin, this is therefore like connecting the batteries up backward - IT MAY DAMAGE YOU KEYBOARD

2) The socket on the keyboard where the adaptor plugs in is prone to breaking and coming loose from the circuit board Looks something like picture below ( maybe grey ) This can often be diagnosed by holding the power adaptor plug where you clip it into the keyboard and moving it at the same time as turning on. If you get any lights the socket is faulty and will heed to be replaced. If you post the model number I can advise on socket needed.

3) More serious internal damage possibly as a use of wrong power supply ( see note 1 )

Good luck in tracking the fault.

Battery does not charge, but remains on with power supply connected. Female to male connection "touchy." Can turn off if cord is barely touched. Main concern being how to fix female part of power supply.

DC Jack diagnosis:
1. Test power adapter for output voltage. Bend the power cable in various directions while doing this to be sure that there is no broken conductors in the cable.
2. If power adapter is Ok, connect it & see if the power LED on the laptop will glow when you jiggle the power connector in various directions. If yes, then the DC jack might be loose or damaged, & need to be either re-soldered or replaced.
3. If not, then disassemble the laptop. Remove any components that attach to the laptop's motherboard first (e.g. battery, hard drive, RAM, wireless card, optical drive, ... etc.)
4. Next, remove the keyboard & the LCD screen.
5. Finally, unscrew all screws that hold the upper cover & lower cover together so that you could gain access to the motherboard.
6. Inspect the solder points connecting the DC jack to the motherboard. Make sure that none of them is loose. If any, re-solder them.
7. Inspect the center pin in the DC jack. Make sure that it is not broken or loose. If it is, then you might need to replace the DC jack.
8. When you are done, re-assemble back the laptop.

3.5'' internal memory card reader/writer installation problem

Your reader/writer is set up for use on 2 USB ports (hence the 9 pin connector), one port for the reader and one for the externak USB port. This has nothing to do with the port version. The long and short of it is you need a card with a matching internal header. NEVER break off a pin! Some of these headers have reversed connectons so you probably broke of one of the data pins and runed that header's ability. Typically the readers like you have come with several cables, so that they can match the headers you have available. Older motherboards and add on USB cards did not use standardized header configurations aas you seem to have found out. Your best bet at this point is contact the manufacturer of the reader and find out what brand of add on USB cards they recommend and go with that. AND AGAIN NEVER REMOVE ANY PINS FROM A HEADER !!!

Power Issue

sounds suspiciosly like your chord fitting is damaged(loose wires at connection)and shorting.if possible try a friends power supply with same connecter type before renewing cos could be faulty(loose)connection at pc(inside)constant pushing and pulling of connections often causes 1. loose split or disconnected wires at male connection or 2.loose pins on motherboard female connection or broken housing (not difficult to repair)more difficult to find out how to get to internal connection.

Check the back of the LT. You may have missed some screws that hold the Mobo to the chassis or the LCD hinges to the chassis.

IBM Clicky Model M Keyboard

Viewing the male connector (on the keyboard or mouse cable), the pinout is:

mini_din-6_male.gif

In both cases, the pins are normally used as follows:

pin function

1 data (yellow)
2 (reserved)
3 gnd (blk)
4 +5v (red)
5 clock(white)
6 (reserved)
try to interchange wire from pin 1 and pin 5 if doesn't work.

Yes, try replacing the power button assembly first and the heatsink assembly and fan before shelling out big bucks on a Mobo (which is probably pulled from another LT).
