i use it to find root and powers of numbers. it turn up in certain natural process like radioactive decay, population growth, interest calculations..etc

for square rooting a number

square root of 16
type 16 press the log ( I'm using a scientific calculator a TI 30s to be exact) key to get 1.204119983 for a result divide by 2 to get .602059991 press shift or 2nd log key ( to get the 10^ key - this the anti- log key) to get 4 as a result

Explain "CUT", "UP", "5/4"

CUT: Values are cut off to the number of decimal places speicified by the current Decimal Place Selector setting

UP: Values are rounded up to the number of decimal places speicified by the current Decimal Place Selector setting

5/4: Values are rounded off (0,1,2,3,4 are cut off; 5,6,7,8,9 are rounded up) to the number of decimal places speicified by the current Decimal Place Selector setting

I am afraid there is nothing to explain. You are multiplying 6000 by 5785344 millions and the result is as shown on the screen capture. It requires 17 digits to be displayed in full. However your calculator does not have enough places to display it. So when a calculator (any calculator) lacks space to display a number in full it uses Scientific notation.

I assume you mean the 11th root of 1.0862. Simply raise 1.0862 to the inverse of 11. It would look like this: 1.0862^(1/11)
