SOURCE: tally t2265 'check ribbon' hardware alarm...

The check ribbon message on the 2265 indicates the printer is detecting problems with moving the print head. You have ruled out the ribbon as being the cause of the problem by using ribbons from another printer.
Befor suspecting other components check the pritner model, if the printer is a 2265+ check to ensure the correct ribbon is used. Note the ribbon for the 2265+ is different to the 2265 ribbon. The 2265+ has a ribbon sensor to detect the ribbon moving. If the printer is a 2265+ the part number for the ribon should be 062471.

If the correct ribbon is used the problem could be the timming strip which could be dirty or warn. Try cleaning this and check for damage.
The problem can also be caused by a dirty or lubricated carriage shaft, the carriage shaft should be clean and dry running - Keep clean of any type of lubricant.
The problem can also be cused by the timing station on the carraige, the carriage motor.

Testimonial: "Really good advice, checking those ribbon part numbers can save a lot of wasted time stripping the printer down! Not a very nice machine to work on! m"

My printer is showing error as "hardware alarm +1308 +131 --- 000004+0381+1317" wat could be the problem

The hardware error indicated on your printer is indicating that the printer is encountering problems when moving the print head.

This error can be indicated if there is any thing which may be preventing print head movement, things you can check include;

The printer ribbon is not jammed and is located correctly in the printer,
You can also check to ensure there is no paper jam of loose paper which may prevent print head movement,
You can also check the carriage shaft to ensure it is free from paper dust or any other obstructions.
With the printer powered off, the print head should slide freely across the width of the printer, you can then see if there is any obstruction to the printhead

TALLY GENICOM 2280+ HARWARE ALARM CODE +0016 +131

Unfortunatly not enough of the Hardware Alarm Task Number is included in the description to identify the most likely cause of the problem but some things you can check are;

  • Remove the ribbon from the printer, ensure this is not jammed or damaged
  • Power the printer OFF and try manually sliding the print head from side to side, look out for any objects which may obstruct the movement of the print head (pen lids etc!)
  • Ensure the print head gap is not set to close to the paper, thus jamming the print head
  • Remove the paper to ensure the paper is not restricting print head movement.
  • Clean the Optical Timing Strip that runs under the print head, ensure this is not damaged also.
  • Clean the carriage shaft, this should be FREE from any lubricants WD40 etc and dry running. Remove build up of paper dust etc.
