Question about Acer Aspire 5315 Notebook

1 Answer

How to format acer 5315 (just out of warranty)

I have 2 recovery discs p/n: dd.ale00.010 and1 p/n: sd.aj800.012.
(I have formatted my windows 98 many times so I am capable)
Reason for formatting is due mainly to the misfunction of the Matshita
uj-8505. Code 10 is displayed after uninstall of the drive and restart. The driver is the "correct available".
I have not tried to use the discs yet. The discs may not start and I want confirmation that nothing will go wrong if I try. (unless all else fails)

Thanks in advance for any advice. Jeff.

Dear Smithbrother. The dvd drive misfunction is my main reason to format, hoping a fresh start would clear out all the possible conflicts that may be causing general instability . Thanks Jeff

Thank you very much . Drive now works without format. What can I say but thanks again. Jeff.

The question become : What happened that you woudl need to reformat it? Reformatting is usually necessary when one has a hardware failer, such as a hard drive crash and has the HD replaced
    first.

You don't need to format you hard drive, just follow these steps:

Step 1: Start Registry Editor loadTOCNode(3, 'whattotry'); Start->Run->type regedit and click OK.
Step 2: Delete the UpperFilters registry entry loadTOCNode(3, 'whattotry');

  1. In Registry Editor, expand My Computer, and then expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
  2. Expand SYSTEM, and then expand CurrentControlSet.
  3. Expand Control, and then expand Class.
  4. Under Class, click {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}.
  5. In the details pane of Registry Editor, on the right side, click UpperFilters.

Note You may also see an UpperFilters.bak registry entry. You do not have to remove that entry. Click UpperFilters only.
    • If you see the UpperFilters registry entry in the details pane of Registry Editor, go to step 6.
    • If you do not see the UpperFilters registry entry, you still might have to remove the LowerFilters registry entry. To do this, go to "Step 3: Delete the LowerFilters registry entry."
  6. On the Edit menu, click Delete.
  7. Click Yes when you receive the following message: Are you sure you want to delete this value?

If you do not see the LowerFilters registry entry, unfortunately this content is unable to help you any more. Go to the "Next Steps" section for information about how you can find more solutions or more help on the Microsoft Web site.
  2. On the Edit menu, click Delete.
  3. Click Yes when you receive the following message: Are you sure you want to delete this value? The LowerFilters registry entry is removed.
  4. Exit Registry Editor.
Step 4: Restart your computer loadTOCNode(3, 'whattotry'); Restart your computer. After you have done this, try to access the CD or DVD drive. If you can access the CD or DVD drive, and if you do not receive an error message, the problem is resolved. You can reinstall your CD or DVD writing or recording software.

1. you can manually go to computer window right click on each partition and and select format it will prompt more boxes and just click on ok or continue.
2. you can also set your computer back to its defaults by accessing the acer recovery management console, most manufacturer placed pre-installed apps on programs list, but you can also do it a manually be restarting the computer and keep tapping on f6 until you reach the console page
3. you can also use the original disc to restore back to defaults :)

ok there are a few ways you can do this one way is if you have a windows 98 disk run it from start up it will format it for you or you can buy a set of cables that will let you hook it up as a usb drive hook it up to another computer an format the drive put it back in to laptop an try install again or get a copy of a full version of windows that you had on pc an reinstall it then do your recovery disk or just get a copy of the recover disk for that pc from acer.

Computer froze

When you format a drive if windows was on it, it will no longer be which would be what would cause the freezing. Hold down the power button and then check the machine again.

Have a travel mate 2423wxci preinstalled windows xp home edition. Have formated the hard drive but can't find the recovery disk. How do I get one?

Hi,

Did you format the whole drive?

If you didn't fully format the drive then the Recovery Partition could still be intact.

Start the laptop up and at the splash screen keep tapping F10 or ALT+F10 and if the Recovery Partition is intact the laptop will start the recovery process, if you get a message say BOOT EXECUTE/NO then the partition is not there.

You have 2 options now:
  1. Call Acer and get a set of recovery disc's, will cost approx between £20-60 for a set of discs.
  2. Buy a copy of XP home edition and then download all the drivers for your hardware.
Thanks

Format

Hi

two options

  1. The original restore dvd / cd can be used to format and restore the computer to the original state it came on.
  2. Use the windows installation cd, format the hard drive during the setup and then continue with installing windows, at the end you will need the device drivers and those are available at http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/downloads.html
