Question about Kenmore Elite 45986 Front Load Washer

Kenmore front loader washer model 11042822201 drain and spin

Error code F02
Washer will not drain and spin.
I took the lower front panel off and checked filter, it was clear.
I took hose from pump to drain, it was clear and not kinked.
I turned it on after it had sat for awhile and it worked.

Error code F02 again. I let it set for an hour and it worked again. I've had the pump out and there is no physical damage that I can see. I've seen the pump work with the filter pulled. Could the pump be getting hot or are there some sensors involved that might be shutting the pump off.

same thing, but i am not sure that it is spining at all even when it is in the wash cycle

  • Navic Mar 16, 2009

I have suspected that the timing function is not working properly -- some loads take over an hour to complete. Tonight was another story -- as it was on its last few minutes and suppose to be spinning, it started beeping and the code F 02 started flashing ---

The particular Sears Kenmore model I have is the Elite HE3T.

I have more information on the problem.

This F02 error code on the Kenmore Elite HE3 seems to only happen with heavy loads (towels, jeans). I have successfully done several loads that are generally lighter.

The pump works when draining after the wash and rinse cycle. The only time the water is not pumped out is on the final cycle. I have watched the complete 45 minute normal cycle to verify this. I finished the heavy load that seemed to trigger the F02 error code by removing the filter cover to let the water drain out. I observed the pump impellar rotating very fast while the water drained out.

There is a clicking sound coming from the pump impellar area. I have taken the pump out, the hose from pump outlet to washing machine exit, and the hose from the bottom of the tub to the inlet of the filter manifold. All of these drain pieces are clear of debris.

The pump impellar has about 1/8" movement axially. I don't think this is causing the clicking noise but I am unsure.

The ball inside the hose connecting the tub to the filter manifold has nothing obvious preventing it from sealing the tub hole when water back pressure exists.

My current theory on the problem based on the comment from mike73 is that the control board doesn't allow the pump to get enough current when the tub motor draws a lot of current due to the heavier load.

A control board for this model of the Kenmore Elite HE3 is not available from but the control unit is. The cost is $163.41 for part number 8182706.

Does anyone else have a comment on this problem? I don't think it is a blockage problem.

I just got the F 02 error code with what I would consider a medium sized load using the Heavy Duty Wash Cycle and Normal soil level (50 minutes). The error happened at 26 minutes. The pump was hot to the touch but I could still touch it. I pressed cancel twice and pushed start and the cycle continued. The water was not coming out as forcefully as I had observed on some previous loads.

I have re-routed the drain hose from the pump outlet going to the upper back of the machine so that it now goes from the pump outlet through the lower front of the machine. I have taped the end to a piece of PVC that leads to the basement drain. I did this to make it easier to drain the machine if the F 02 happens. If anyone tries this, the hose normally has to be elevated above the bottom of the tub or you will likely get the error code F H (or H F depending on how you order the letters) because there will be no water back pressure holding the tub drain hose ball on the inside of the hose to the tub's drain hole.

    Thanks Mike73,

I came to the same conclusion about the pump. I ordered it and it is supposed to be here today. I will be replacing the new pump tonight to see if it works. About a year ago I was getting F11 which ended up being a valve but also lead to a mold problem because of the sitting water. While figuring out that problem I found some coins in the filter and I'm guessing that some of those coins or something else hard was sucked in temporarily by the pump and damaged it. I'm probably just now seeing the damage.

I will no more tonight. I will also check out the control board in the top right front corner.

    Yes, this was helpful

I've installed the pump and so far it is working. I looked at the other pump while it was running and out of the enclosure. First, the impellar was pulled away from the motor. After pushing the impellar back on the shaft, the clicking noise started again. I'm guessing that somthing got in the pump enclosure and bent the shaft slightly. It is not visibly bent and there is no physical damage to the impellar but the tight fit in the motor border combined with the clicking makes me think the shaft is ben. The other thing I would like to note is that the part number for the pump (8181864) came with the complete housing also. I'm sure just the pump would have been cheaper but I didn't see that option.

I keep getting Error code F02 and SUD with even light load.

  • Michael Childers May 11, 2010

not able to find tech info with that model# but based on duet and duet sport info (kenmore is based on one of these machines)f 02 is a nonexistant code, which usually means bad control board. (common on whirlpools) if its faulting only while running pump then pump could be drawing to much causing fault other wise internal board error.

  • prem mathew May 11, 2010

You have to check the connections to the pump, tighten. Even a tooth pick could stall the pump. So examine..............

Based on what you said about clicking noise from pump and pump getting hot (this pump is liquid cooled-sealed) I would recommend replacing the pump first then the control board. Board is located on top right front corner, not inside console area, simply slide the top back to see this. unit slides back to unmount. however as I said before this code did not exist and usually means bad board and this is common on whirlpool made machines. you do not need buy this from sears, use sears for part numbers these are whirlpool numbers.

it always comes as a complete assembly. I always replace the same way. Good that it is working now and hope that is all it was.

Whirlpool front loader duet hd washer gets stuck in the wash cycle with the error code of F02. What is F02 mean?

Whirlpool Duet front-load washer F02 usually means it is taking over 8 minutes for the washer to sense that the rinse or wash water has drained, which either means that the drain/filter is clogged or the pressure switch/tube is clogged (causing both the washer to over-fill with water and not sensing that water has drained).

To clear out the drain/filter, tilt the washer backwards a little for easier to the kick-plate and support the front bottom with a wood block or similar, remove the front kick-plate's (3) retaining screws and swing the kick-plate up out of the way. The filter drain is behind the white knob in the center, be prepared with something to catch any remaining water and lots of towels to soak up any spills, and turn the knob counter-clockwise to remove the filter.

My Maytag Front Loader Washer was reading sud on the digital screen and also reading F02. After a few days past by, it stopped reading that because i looked online and thought i solved the problem. Just...

Hello & Welcome to FixYa

F02 is a drain error in your Kenmore washer, if the unit is unable to drain then after 4 minutes it will display suds and then F02. The first thing that should be done is cleaning the drain hose and the drain pump filter, you can take out three torx screws from the bottom front panel and then clean the area completely, lift up the cap to clean the filter. If the error returns then check the drain pump if it is not working then replacing the pump is recommended repair. Please get back to me if you have any other questions.

Error message of f02 on Kenmore HE3 front loader washer at end of cycle

The F2 error code indicates that the washer spent too long in the drain cycle, that typically is due to the drain pump filter being clogged. It's fairly easy to clean that filter by removing the lower panel and unscrewing the filter on the lower right side .Be prepared for some (perhaps a lot) of water to come out when that filter is unscrewed so have some towels or a couple plastic tubs to catch the water that comes out DO NOT completly remove that screen until all the water has come out or be prepared to get very wet by pulling it out without first catching the water

Hope this helps and if it does please give me 4 thumbs up

My whirpool duet front loader and when my washer get to the last 2 minutes it Flases F. What is this and how do I fix it???

This is a fault code but the F flashes alternately with a number or another character depending on the model of the machine to indicate the fault code number. Since the fault happened at the last two minutes of the cycle, it is likely associated with a drain problem and the fault code is likely F02 or F21 depending on the machine's model.

Remove the three screws attaching the lower front access panel to the cabinet then pull the panel down and off the cabinet. You can prop up the bottom front edge of the washer or cushion and lean it against the wall to access and remove the screws more easily. Once the panel is off, you'll find a knob which is the drain filter. Turn the knob counterclockwise to remove the filter and clean it. You may need to lay a towel under the filter to catch residual water before removing it. Manually drain the water, by gravity, from the tub if significant amount of water is still present by placing the end of the drain hose as low as possible into a basin or bucket.

Click on the link below if cleaning the drain filter doesn't solve the problem.

I have a Kenmore Elite HE3 model 44832 200 washer. Will spin sometimes, but doesn't seem to get to full speed. Often won't spin at all and gets F02 error, but it does roll during wash/rinse cycles. ...

he F02 message is a long drain error and it may mean the pump is clogged or bad. You don't provide a lot of detail about if the water is draining out or not but the first thing to check for this error is the drain pump.

The image below shows how to access the pump and remove the filter. This may be your only problem. With the access panel removed you can also make sure the pump is running. Remember to unplug the washer before removing the access panel.

Check the pump for the F02 and make sure you're using HE detergent and there's not excessive suds.

My Kenmore elite he3t is giving me a problem in the spin cycle. Even thought the spin setting is set on high or extra high, the drum turns very slowly and will eventually stop and the washer starts...

The machine will not advance to the high-speed spin cycle unless the water is drained first. The F02 error code manifests this condition as it means draining problem. Either the pump filter is blocked, the drain hose is clogged/kinked, the pressure switch is stuck in the full position, or the pump itself is not working. The display can be cleared by pressing the Pause/Cancel button twice.

Disconnect power and remove the three screws attaching the lower front access panel to the cabinet then pull the panel down and off the cabinet. You can prop up the bottom front edge of the washer or cushion and lean it against the wall to access and remove the screws more easily.

Once the panel is off, remove the filter by turning the knob counterclockwise. Clean the filter from any debris that prevents water from draining out properly. Click on the link below for further troubleshooting should the cleaning of the filter does not resolve the problem.

My washer gives me a 02 F error code and does not spin the water complete the cycle. It just freezes

"F/02" Long Drain
If the drain time exceeds 8 minutes, the water valves are turned off and "F/02" is flashed.
NOTE: After 4 minutes the "Sud" error will be displayed, then 4 minutes later the F02 error code will be displayed.
Press PAUSE/CANCEL twice to clear the display.
  • Check the drain hose and make sure it is not plugged or kinked.
  • Check the electrical connections at the pump and make sure the pump is running.
  • Check the drain pump filter for foreign objects.
  • If the above does not correct the problem, replace the pump

Washing machine has intermittent drain issues with F02 code

When the three screws are out of the bottom, you should be able to pull the front panel down (towards the floor) and then out from the bottom. Unscrew the big white cap on the drain housing. Be prepped for the water. Most of the time the problem is due to **** in there.

Probably something caught in pump. Remove lower panel if this one has it and you will see the pump. Loosen the round cover in middle to access clean-out.
