My HP Pavilion dv6000 keeps restarting with blank screen

My HP Pavilion dv6000 keeps restarting each time and the screen is left blank all the time. I don't hear any sounds either to detect any HW failure. It's reseting each 13-15 seconds after turning on so I'm unable to do anything and it doesn't even beep when booting. I've tried to reset the memory as well. Note: I've had a similar problem before with gfx card and they had to replace my motherboard but since then it worked without any problems.

The screen remains black all the time and F8 doesn't work - the notebook will reset again. The question is, if it really is the GFX, why there are no warning beebs to detect a HW failure.

If you keep pressing the F12 key repeatedly after you turn on the power, it should bring you to a screen that will allow you to go into BIOS or select a boot device. Mine told me that it was trying to recover from standby and the battery was critically low. I got it to boot from there.

It is normal for computers to reboot when there is a problem. Before Windows XP starts, Hit F8. It will bring you to a boot screen. You can disable the reboot or you can go into safe mode to search for the problem. It might just be your GFX again. I would look into it more if I were you.

If you cant even see the boot screen. Your physical screen might be bad.

Not sure if this is whats up with your laptop but there is a recall on the dv6000. The following link has more details on whether your laptop is one of those affected.

Usb ports not working

hi,

What device are you trying to connect? was there an error message when you plug in the usb device. try booting up your computer to safe mode with networking.

1. Restart the computer
2. Keep on tapping F8 when you have the HP logo screen, using the down/up arrow of the keyboard choose safe mode with networking. if the device still not working then it could be a problem with the USB driver. You may try restoring your computer back to the working time using system restore. Just go to start then Accessories - System tools- system restore.Restore your computer to a working date.

Keep me posted.

Thanks.
