SOURCE: sound driver

Sorry pal. Machine is a DELL Inspiron 1721. No cable neither loudspeakers. I have no motherboard CD shipped with laptop. I already tried to install audio drivers from DELL Utilities & Drivers CD, but OS refuses to recognize that a soundcard is present.

Thanks anyway. It has to be solved by someone who's had the same problem and managed to work around it.

I need pci sound card driver but i don't know the module

Good Day,
With your problem, you may want to download a software called ASTRA32, with this link, http://www.astra32.com/files/astra32setup.exe After downloading, please install it,(just follow on screen instructions) then RUN it. It may take a while to run it the first time (depending on your system configuration). After a while, you will se a windows listing all your system information, driver names, etc.
Just click on the button that says "DRIVERS" with an exclamation point. Here it will show you all hardware which does not have the correct drivers installed, which in your case no driver has been installed yet. Just browse down on the right window pane to see the complete hardware name of your sound card. It will be listed there as "Problem Device" and just look for the device name. After you have known the device name, you can either go to the device manufacturers website or search for the drivers using any search engine of you choice, such as Google.
Hope this helps you. and thank you for using Fixya.

I have lost all sound from my laptop

You need to install the drivers for you sound. Your laptop should come with this but If you don't have it within your reach then you can go to the website of your laptop product or the sound name. In case you don't have the website, you can try using a search engine.

When you enter the site, look for "drivers and downloads", there you will enter the product name of your Laptop/sound and the model number. You will see the display of all the drivers your system.

To save you all this stress, go to control panel on your laptop, click system icon, after then click Device Manager, locate the "sound video and game controller", right click on sound and click up update driver software.

Before you can do all these, make sure your laptop is connected to the internet

Windows has drivers BUT, in many cases they are not the ones designed for your Motherboard. If you have the CD for the Motherboard you can install the drivers from that. Otherwise, you'll need to get the NAME of EACH of the devices (ie. NVidia for Graphics, Hitachi for Disk, Ricoh for Ethernet, etc.) to be able to determine what drivers you need. In many cases, the Motherboard Drivers are to be Installed BEFORE you install Windows. May be possible to install after windows install tho. Need to get a device listing first.
GOTO Device Manager in Control Panel and broswe through the listings for each of your devices to get the maker names.

No audio device installed on my laptop

I'm not sure whether this is the exact same problem, as I was having, but mine just randomly quit while I was listening to music this morning. I got messages saying "No audio device installed", but when I went to device manager, all my audio devices said they were working properly. If this is the case with you, simply restart your computer. It may take a couple restarts, but this should work. My sound was back even before it finished shutting down.

If it helps anyone trying to get to the root of this problem, I am running XP on a Dell B130 laptop, with the following devices listed in Device Manager:
Audio Codecs
Legacy Audio Drivers
Legacy Video Capture Devices
Media Control Devices
SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC
Video Codecs
Hope this helps!
