LG 32LC2D TV power/standby flashes red , sometimes goes off

LG 32LC2D LCD TV

The power/standby flashes red when TV is off and sometimes goes off completly. When the power/standby is off it's impossible to power on the TV unless the TV is unplugged a few times and the power/standby starts flashing again. The problem is getting worse.
Thank you
Michael

Need some idea which is the most likely to be causing the problem and which board. If I buy a service manual where would I look to make sure ??

According to first reply - "Common faults that can occurr are a blown capacitor on power board, a convergence IC has blown, or a fault on Digital board."

I see the flashing red led even if remove all cables so that's not the problem. As I mentioned before sometimes the red led goes off and it's impossible to power on the system.

Powering on and off many times brings the red led on eventually , it starts flashing and then the set can be powered on and runs just fine. The problem is only seen powering on.

I notice that the pc board that has the red led mounted on is conneted directly into a main motherboard (?). Is the problem more likely to be the power board or the "Digital board". Is the "Digital board" the main board that the pc board with the red led plugs into ??

    Thank you

    Michael

Hoping for a more detailed solution. The received comments so far don't really help me fix the problem. Is this a known problem ??? how can I narrow it down more ??

  • mdrip Mar 16, 2009

Not really that helpful I'm afraid. I know it's tough to narrow down a problem like this but I expected more. At least if the problem had been seen before and what the solution was in that case. I won't be using this service again.

  • mdrip Mar 16, 2009

"circuit board malfunctioning" isn't helpful. I'm disapointed that I spent money to be basically told there is a problem. I know that. What I really wanted to know is some more detailed ideas. The service manual that I also paid for is useless as well.

Since its working when you unplug and plug it again, the problem should be with a capacitor.
And it sounds like a problem in power unit. So, now you have to find out which capacitor has gone bad. You can physically see for any blown capacitors. if not, you can check with multimeters.

Hi, this is an internal fault code that is being displayed by the lights in front or this set. you will need to replace the power inverter board. it has failed. you can reach this board by removing the back panel and screws. its behind the lower shield. just remove a few screws and clips and replace.

this inverter board is quite slender in build and most of them are green with microchips lined up in a row.

Download a service manual, and troubleshoot. Thats all we can do from our end as well.

We are not aware of your skillset and what testing equipment you have.

There can be many issues in regard to a blinking display. From Bad solder joints on a power supply board (my suggestion since the problem is in the starting up of the tv) to failed FETs or diodes etc.

Thanks for using FixYa

Unfortunetely this is a problem wit hthe circuit board malfunctioning. The only way to get it working 100% is to have a repair center service it, which is costly = /

In this scenario, the only thing to do is get the problem narrowed down to the closest number of components so you won't have to pay a huge Diagnostics fee at the repair center. Unless you have a degree in Computer Engineering, or someone to walk you through 3+ hours of repair work, you will need to have someone locally fix it.

Thank you for asking your question on Fixya.com. You might wish to unplug the TV for an hour or more. If this power reset does not allow the TV to turn on component failure is indicated. This model is known for having issues with their power supplies failing. These are assembled using the wave soldering process they are known for having cold solder connections. The safety circuitry shuts the TV set down or will keep it from turning on when it detects a problem. This model of TV has over 2,000 parts, which includes millions of transistors inside the integrated circuits. The capacitors will change value, leak and become defective. Resistors will change value and burn. Diodes and IC can go bad. This may have a domino effect and cause other parts to fail. Replacing one defective part may make the TV operate for a short time but the part will fail again if the parts that caused the failure to begin with are not replaced. The only way to know for sure which parts that are no longer within factory specs and for a proper repair all the electronics must be diagnosed by someone with the correct electronic test equipment specifically designed for TV service and the skills to use the test equipment. I wish I could tell you there was a quick fix or button to push that would fix the TV but that is not the case or the solution needed to get the TV operating correctly.

If the issue still persists, call Technician.

Do rate this soultion as a way of appreciating me.

Thanks.

Thanks.

The TV goes in protection mode because an internal fault had been detected, probably a bad power supply or convergence ICs going.

    Ginko Mar 15, 2009

When the power/standby flashes red ,
    that indicates a fault condition.

The flashing light indicates a diagnostic state called protection.
When the Monitor goes on protection there are only two possible causes.

    1The
internal circuits are jammed because of electrostatic
chargesaccumulating on capacitors, or because of a wrong voltage read
by themain chip on your monitor controller board. this started the
    protectioncircuit.

2 The protection circuit detected a wrong
voltage or abroken contact, identified an internal fault and kicked in
    , startingthe flashing light.

If you are in situation one, then theTV will reset just unplugging power cord for one or two hours, sometimes even minutes.

If you are in situation 2 , then there is an internal fault.

    Common faults
that can occurr are a blown capacitor on power board, a
convergence IC has blown, or a fault on Digital board.

    Check also
the video cable or any external connection cable, if the cable is shorting, or the connector is bad, you
can get same flashing statebecause of the video cable.

Try moving the video cable, and if the cable is not built in, then also try a replacement cable.

If under warranty contact the manufacturer ringing the number on the user manual

If you want to repair at your own expenses, just locate any good qualified repairer.

When turning on tv. screen will display Bravia image & then go blank. red light flashes SIX times

Power off the television. Wait a few minutes, then power it back on. If this does not correct the issue leave the power on, point your remote control towards the Sony television and hold the down arrow button. While holding the down arrow button press the "Power" button. Release the down arrow button and the Sony TVicon1.png will reset itself to factory settings. Once the television performs a scan on itself your problem should be gone.

TV won't turn on. flashes a series of 5 red lights instead of turning green

Usually Sony and LG Blinking Codes are the same. Here is what I have.
  • Unit is dead, No blinks - Problem in the standby power section. Might check fuse,
  • Continuous blink once a second, no pausing - No reply from the jungle IC301 (data bus is busy, shorted to ground, or held high), IK video path is defective.
  • One blink - not used for the self-diagnosis
  • Two blinks - B+ over current protection (OCP), unit goes to the standby mode then displays the 2 blink fault. Could be a short in the power supply of any of the circuits.
  • Three blinks - B+ over voltage protection (OVP), unit goes to the standby mode then displays the 3 blink fault. This is also a problem in the power supply circuit,
  • Four blinks - No vertical Deflection (V STOP), Screen goes to a single horizontal line then the video signal muted.
  • Five blinks - AKB circuit (automatic kine bias), the timer/standby indicator blinks for about 30 seconds then goes to the self-diagnosis function. Something is wrong with the video. In addition, unit could be in IK blanking, try turning up screen slightly.
  • Six blinks - No Horizontal (H STOP), no raster, goes to the blinking self-diagnosis function immediately.
  • Seven blinks - High voltage shutdown. The high voltage has exceeded 33k and the unit goes immediately into safety shutdown. Check power supply regulation and horizontal circuits.
  • Eight blinks - Problem with the audio (AUDIO), unit goes to standby and blinks the self-diagnosis code.
  • Nine blinks - Panel Module Error or Thermal Error. If it is intermittent 9 blinks, meaning sometimes the TV comes on and other times you get flashing Make sure the regulator is -12 or -13 (negitive).
  • Ten blinks - Check Q8014 and Q8013 for shorts, leakage, or bad solder connections on the " D" board. If the transistors are bad, check R8051 and IC8005, also on the "D" board.

I have an LG 17LX1R LCD TV/monitor that won't go on. The power light on the TV flashed red . . . but that's it.

My LG 17LX1R had a almost the same problem. Red standby went to green for 1-2 seconds then back to red standy. Turned out to be bad caps on the power supply board. Yours is definately going to need to be opened up. Not a generic fix. You gotta ask yourself if its worth fiixing a 6-7 year old LCD tv with limited LCD life. New ones can be had for about $130-150.

LG LCD TV Standby Light Flashing Red Continuously

I have had this same problem twice in the past 3 months. So far both times I've been able to get it back after a week or two. I'm not sure what works, but unplugging and detaching the antenna and cable and waiting a few days seems to be the key. In both instances, I unplugged it for a few days then plugged it in for a few days and repeated the processes until I eventually got the steady red led. Both times prior to the red led the led would flash red then green and make a clickiing noise for several hours before I was able to get it working again.
