Unable to open certain attachments with Yahoo Email

I have been uable to download attachments sent to me if they are in Microsoft Word or Excel. I get to the dialog box that saying downloading and it just keeps going for a long time never opening up and does the same thing when I try to save it. I have waited for over an hour before and still nothing. Now if I forward the email to my hotmail account I can open it. I called AT&T and they said it has nothing to do with their side.

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

I am new to Yahoo and I cannot seem to attach anything. It just sits there saying that it needs time. I never had this problem with Comcast. What do I need to do t resolve it?

Yahoo Mail is a Web-based email program that is provided for free by Yahoo.
Anyone can sign up for the service to send and receive emails from friends and family.
Yahoo places restrictions on the size and type of attachments that can be sent and received when using Yahoo Mail.
Any email attachment that contains a virus, is too large or doesn't meet the file type requirements may be blocked by Yahoo.
Virus Scanner

Yahoo Mail scans each attachment that arrives or departs from your inbox with Norton AntiVirus.
If the virus scanning software detects a virus within an attachment, Yahoo will warn you and attempt to clean it.
Yahoo does not promise that every virus will be detected or cleaned by the Norton AntiVirus software.
Only accept attachments from people you know and trust.
Don't attempt to open blocked attachments if it is known to harbor a virus.
Large Attachments
Attachments exceeding 25 megabytes will not attach to an email.
Multiple attachments that exceed 25 megabytes will also be blocked by Yahoo Mail.
Once your attachments reach 25 megabytes, you will no longer be able to add any additional attachments.
If you have many attachments to send that exceed 25 megabytes, send several emails to send all of the attachments.
If you are receiving attachments, let the sender know that you are unable to receive any attachments larger than 25 megabytes.
Slow Connection Speed
It may appear that Yahoo is blocking your attachments if you have a slow dial-up connection because they may never appear to load.
Yahoo isn't actually blocking the attachment, the connection is just very slow.
A 25 megabyte file could take over an hour to download with a 56K dial-up connection.
Your computer may go to sleep or the download may be even slower if you surf the Web while your files upload.
File Type
Only certain file types can be sent using Yahoo Mail.
Yahoo Mail allows you to add audio files, images, HTML files, word processing documents, spreadsheets and many other types of files as attachments.
Some documents are not supported, but you can send unsupported file types by renaming them, including them in a RAR or ZIP archive, creating a Word document with the file, sending the file through Yahoo Messenger or you can upload the file elsewhere and send a link to the file via email.

Can't seem to open up an attachment sent to me on

In some cases mobile phones just cannot open certain types of files. It is hard to say without knowing the exact model of your phone or the type of file the attachment is, but in most cases when a file will not open, the mobile device just does not support opening that type of file.

It's a pain and probably the best solution is just to open the attachment on your PC.

How can I open XLSs files that have been sent to me via email I have no trouble in opening pdf files. Thanks.

XLS files are Microsoft Excel spreadsheets. If you don't have MS Office or Excel installed on your computer, Microsoft has a viewer you can download. You can't make any changes to the file, but you'll be able to see what you have been sent. Here's the page at MS where you can find information and the download link for the viewer.

PDF files open with Adobe Reader which is something completely different.

Try to Restore Microsoft Excel to Its Default Spreadsheet ,
Open Microsoft Excel.

Navigate to the Help menu and open the "Detect and Repair" function. The Detect and Repair dialog will appear. If you want to restore your shortcuts at this time, check the appropriate icon
Click "Start." Wait for a short period while Office deletes all of the settings on all of the programs in the suite and restores it to its original installed state. This will apply the settings to Word, PowerPoint and Excel, and any other Office programs you have installed

CANNOT OPEN DOCUMENT SENT OR ANY WVM FILES SENT

Files of the 'WMV' (not 'WVM') types should be opened and processed by Microsoft's "W(indows) M(edia) V(ideo) player".

If you have not installed Microsoft Office, nor Microsoft's *free* "Word Viewer" software, then any 'DOC' files cannot be opened/viewed.
Access http://OfficeUpdate.microsoft.com to download the "free" viewers (PowerPoint, Excel, anld Word).

When i try to download certain files from my yahoo mail they never open they are usually followed by .xls

These are spreadsheet files from Microsoft Excel, a part of Microsoft Office.
If you don't have Microsoft Office installed, you can download (or obtain on a disc from a computer magazine) a free alternative called Open Office.
If you just want to view the files or print them, you can search for "Microsoft Excel Viewer", which is free.

I cannot open attachments and any attachments I send cannot be opened. I am using Yahoo mail and microsoft works word processor. I have sent word files as well as photoes seperatley.

I would recommend to stop using Microsoft Works, as not everyone has it. Microsoft Word will let you open all Word attachments. Word documents are NOT compatible with Works. If you have a copy of Microsoft Office 2003 or 2007 available, you should install it, otherwise, I would recommend that you buy Microsoft Office 2007.
