Hi,

Open the Front access door. You will be able to see the inside of the printer ( the carriage ).

You will find few options on the Printer Screen. Choose - Replace/Remove Printhead. The Carriage will come to Center and you will be able to remove it with the latch.

Regards,
Sean

Remove print head canon mp480

THe print heads are an integral part of each cartridge. When you remove the cartridges you actually remove the print heads. You will need to open the top front panel to access the print carriage which moves left and right over the paper under it. Using cotton swabs you can apply rubbing alcohol to the places the cartridges rest upon and absorb all the dried out ink. Be sure you toss the old cartridges out before you reassemble. If you need to store any ink type printers REMOVE ALL CARTRIDGES and clean off the receivers on the print carriage!

New ink no print

Hi Good day!! Try to do a printer maintenance
Cleaning a Clogged Print Head

1. Press the cleaning button located on the front of the printer. Hold it down for 3 seconds to begin the cleaning cycle.

2. Run a cleaning cycle using your Epson printer utilities program. In Windows, go to "Start," "Printers and Faxes," right-click on your printer and choose "Printing Preferences." Select the "Utility" or "Maintenance" tab, depending on your printer model, and click "Head Cleaning." When the head cleaning cycle is complete, run "Nozzle Check." Repeat the head cleaning and nozzle check one to three times.

3. To access the Epson printer utility in OS X, select the Epson Printer Utility icon in the Applications folder in Macintosh HD. If prompted, select your printer from the Printer List, then click "OK."

Clean the print head manually. Remove the ink cartridges from your printer according to the instructions in your owner's manual. Turn off your printer. Dip a cotton swab in isopropyl alcohol, ammonia or hot water and rub the swab against the print head. Let the printer sit overnight.

Remove the print head according to the instructions in your owner's manual. Soak the print head for at least an hour in a small dish of hot water or isopropyl alcohol.

Preventing Clogged Print Heads

1. Use your printer at least once a week. Regular use will keep dried ink from clogging your print heads. If you have a color inkjet printer, print full color pages in addition to black-and-white documents.

2. Turn your printer off when not in use. This will prevent warm ink from bleeding onto the print head. If you have to store your printer, remove the ink cartridges.

3. Use a cleaning kit regularly. A cleaning kit usually includes a tube of ammonia that you spray on the printer head to clean dry ink.

Step 3

If Print Head Deep Cleaning does not resolve the problem, turn off the machine and perform another Print Head Deep Cleaning after 24 hours. If the problem is still not resolved and if you are sure that the ink didn't run out, then the Print Head may be damaged. Contact your Canon service representative.

Hope this helps.
All the best.

After being abroad for 3 months i can home to find printer not printing correctly i replaced the 5 ink cartridges but only 2 working Black and cyan

The ink has dried in the print head. If the print head comes out, remove it and apply rubbing alcohol or water with a paper towel to the nozels to disolve the ink. Once the ink seems to be fluid, replace the print head and ink cartridges, do a head cleaning and try printing again.

If the print head cannot be removed, get a childs medicine syringe, draw in some rubbing alcohol. Remove the non printing carts and apply a couple of small drops of alcohol to each ink port on the print head. apply some more drops to the ink port of the carts and replace and try a head cleaning and print.

If this does not work, continue to ask for help. The aim is to save the print head, not buy a new printer.

Open the top of the printer and remove all of the ink catridges. Be careful to place them upright and on top of some newspaper. Lift the lever to the left of the print carriage all the way up until it stops. It should come to rest staight up. You may now remove the print head by rocking it forward first and lift it out. Place the print head in a small container that does not allow for much room on any of the sides. Pour rubbing alcohol into the container and submerse the print head until the intake screens are covered. Gently agitate the container for a few minutes and remove the print head...placing it onto newspaper or paper towels. You may use a cotton tip applicator (Q tip) and gently rub each of the intake screen for each color. Turn the print head over and clean off the applicator portions of the print head (Copper looking with slots). Be careful to not leave any debris on any of the surfaces. Tap the print head onto the paper towel softly to remove any excess alcohol. If you notice a lot of ink still oozing from the bottom of the print head you may repeat the soaking and blotting process several times. After you are satisfied that most of the ink is desolved and dislodged from the print head, wipe all the suface with a clean paper towell to insure the contacts, etc. are clean. Replace the print head into the printer and lower the lever to lock the print head into position. Replace each of the colors in the correct locations and choose the deep clean option either on the menu of the printer or on the maintenance options on your computer (Start, settings, printer, properties, maintenance). Try the deep cleaning option to insure the inks are flowed through the print head and then print a test alignment page. If you still continue to have problems with some of the colors or streaking you may need to replace the print head. There are several companies on-line that sell this item and it runs $50 or more. I have refilled my own print cartridges several times and sometimes incur problems from using them too many times...so they also may need to be replaced with new(er) cartridges.

Print head cleaning

The print head is the black plastic bracket at the back and bottom of the unit that holds the ink cartridges - it looks like one piece but its actually two. Remove the four ink cartridges and the just pull the back of the black plastic unit forward and lift out. There are no clips and it comes out effortlessly.
