Question about Computers & Internet
I opened my laptop and booted it up, and it has some black line with a white section full of pink, yellow, and aqua vertical lines down it a various white lines. What's wrong and how do I fix it?
When the laptop is ill, the LCD screen turns colors, and.......
Problem can be;
1) Graphics chipset
2) Video Cable
3) screen Inverter (IF IT USES ONE)
4) LCD screen
Laptop OFF, monitor OFF, connect a VGA monitor to the laptop.
Turn the monitor on. Turn the laptop on. Is there a display on the external VGA monitor? Is it the same as the laptop's LCD screen? Will Cathy ever find true love? Just seeing if you were following along.
This is what I would have stated, for checking out a laptop with a VGA port on it. I would have then gone into detail out the procedure.
From there I describe in detail, on how to diagnose the other hardware components laid out above.
This way you can find out what the exact problem is, without resorting to buying the wrong hardware component.
For example buying an expensive LCD screen, when the problem was a $9 Video Cable.
If you would like this information post back in a Comment.
Also post what the laptop manufacturer name is, and the model number.
The model number can be found on the Bottom of the laptop.

Yes, this is a defective screen. The only fix is to replace the screen. It's called a column of dead pixels. Since it is under warranty, contact HP to have them warranty it out or take it back to the place you purchased it from for an exchange. Please take a moment and give this answer a good rating of fixya. Thank you.

Have you tried to connect your laptop to external monitor?
If you get normal picture on external monitor, then you need to replace LCD screen, but if you get same picture on external screen, then unfortunately you will need new motherboard, because graphics card is integrated to motherboard.

I'm afraid when you see vertical line on an lcd panel, it most likely is screen failure. Ebay has plenty of screen from good companies in Texas. I get most of my screens from Ebay store LCDTECH99. They have the best prices, most screens are under 100 bucks and they ship right away. The Toshiba screen is an easy repair, Only the bezel needs to be removed in most cases. Below is a guide to show the process.
