Go to control Panel : System : Hardware manager.

Find your wifi device and delete it.

Shut down PC, and turn on.

O/S will detect new hardware. (if it does not detect, your card is faulty and warranty work is required)

Let the card re-install.

Retry.

Sony Laptops use an antenna behind the LCD, and it is common for the wires that run into the hing to be damaged.

Also, remove the panel from the underside of the laptop and remove/re-seat the wifi card. It may have been 'bumped' out of place.

Thanks for using FixYa

If you already re-installed the files, and ensured that you correctly activated the wireless card, but you still do not get the card recognised, then the hardware is probably faulty.

In this case you need to contact Sony to show them thet you already have done all the steps and you will get the unit repaired.

Si vous avez installe' les pilotes de l'ordinateur, et vous avez active' correctement le resau sans fil, alors vous devez de contacter sony pour reserver la reparation de l'ordinateur.

Hi, sending this card back for a factory repair will be the best decision at this point. the internals are damaged and will not be able to transmit or receive information.

Click on the control panel and click on the icon labeled Network connections. there will be a connection that should say connected and firewalled. if this connection says disconnected, your card is ruined. if it reads connected. its OK.

As the pc manufacturer will not support if the card is not getting detected.just check out any other same card on your system or check the card in any other similar system.also check out if the drivers are proper and the wifi connection turned on.to the local repair center of computer hardware and software get the card seperately checked to confirm the fault.

Go to menu option in the control panel that says network and internet options, click that, it will then show that that u have a connection or not, if not and nothing else has changed then your card has a problem, I would also contact sony tech support first before you do anything, they will have to approve the return, they will ask u to do certain tests to verify the problem.

If it is still under warranty.contact the sony support center as soon as possible to get it replaced.without trying to do any experiments that void the warranty.

if the unit was still under warranty, it is better send it back to them for service and repair.

any possible incidents may void the warranty, so better not to try do it yourself

How do I turn the radio on the wireless card

When your computer is switched on, the WiFi radio is almost always transmitting or receiving signals. In certain situations, as in an airplane, signals from the radio may cause interference. Use the following methods if you need to disable the radio and use your notebook without emitting radio signals.
Use the Optional Computer Radio On or Off Switch

If your computer has an external switch installed, use it to switch the WiFi radio on or off. See the computer manufacturer for more information about this switch. If you have Intel® PROSet/Wireless installed, the current state of the radio displays in the Intel PROSet/Wireless main window and on the Taskbar.

Use Intel PROSet/Wireless to Switch the WiFi Radio On or Off

From Intel PROSet/Wireless, the WiFi radio can be switched on or off. The status icon on Intel PROSet/Wireless displays the current state of the radio.

To start Intel® PROSet/Wireless, use one of the following methods:
  • Click Start > Programs > Intel PROSet Wireless > WiFi Connection Utility.
  • Right-click the Taskbar icon prosettaskbaricon1.jpg located in the lower right corner of your Windows* Desktop to open the Taskbar menu. Click Configure WiFi.
  • Double-click the Taskbar icon to open Intel PROSet/Wireless.
Switch the WiFi Radio On or Off from the Taskbar Icon

To switch the WiFi radio on or off, click the Taskbar icon image1_ipswtaskbaricon.jpg and select WiFi On or WiFi Off.

How to use the Device Manager to Disable the WiFi Radio

The WiFi radio can be disabled (made non-functional) from the Windows* Device Manager.

Note: If you disabled the WiFi radio from Windows*, then you must use Windows to turn the radio on. You cannot use a hardware switch or Intel PROSet/Wireless to enable the radio again.

Windows* XP
  1. From your desktop, right-click My Computer.
  2. Click Properties.
  3. Click Hardware.
  4. Click Device Manager.
  5. Double-click Network adapters and expand the selection by clicking the Plus symbol.
  6. Right-click the installed WiFi adapter.
  7. Choose Disable from the menu.
  8. Click OK.
Windows Vista*
  1. Use Control Panel > Mobile PC > Adjust commonly used mobility settings (if you use Classic View, select Control Panel > Power Options.
  2. Click Turn Wireless Off .
Hope this helps !

Wireless stops working and have to reboot

It sounds as though your wireless card is starting to go out due to heat. If you have another laptop or a friends laptop to see if they can connect ok without experiencing the same problem you will eliminate the router as the cause. But more than likely you will need to replace the wifi card.

Please rate this if it helps.

Thanks

Well, you can directly try Driver Detective and let the software have a free scan to automatically detect & update the missing Gateway drivers. This way things can be much easier & efficient. Also you don't have to risk install wrong drivers which might cause severe system issues.
