The answer doesn't give any help; i will buy the parts IF I can perform the fix myself.

  • willhiro Mar 19, 2009

I will buy the new print head; however, the Epson Stylus Color 880/880i/8(super3) Printer Basics manual does not show how to replace the head. I will accept that the new head will come with instructions for replacement.

Yes you can replace the print heads yourself. There are instructions on how to do so included with the new print head as well as in the printers manual.

Printer head error

Try updating, or reloading, the printers firmware using the "Fargo Workbench application. it can be found (along with the firmware file) in the "Downloads and Drivers" section, in the Support tab on HIDglobal.com.

Print head errors come in a few ways. Some common issues i see are:

"Print head voltage error"
1. The wire harness, from head to pcb, is loose or damaged.
2. Print head is Damaged and needs replacement. Usually you will see dull lines going straight across your final prints, consistently.

"Head life error"
This error is primarily a mechanical failure. the belts that drive the head life motor have worn, and need replacement.

Cleaning the print head

Usually printer software/utility has a option to do a print head cleaning or alignment that you can use or if not you can manually clean it but that will be better done by a service tech to avoid and damage.

Epson SX515W black ink jet blocked. Anyway to clear it myself?

Inkjet printers need to be used frequently to prevent inkdrying out in the print head nozzles.
If the print head cleaning maintenance routine does not clear the blockages, thenprint head needs replacing, but it may be expensive.
It may be more cost effective to buy a later model and better printer thanreplace the print head.

Every 4th line or so of print is faint and smudgy.

this is a common problem on most inkjet printers, if there left for periods of inactivity the ink dries in the printer head and blocks up the little nozzles that put the ink on the paper.

there should be an option to run some cleaning routines which should help restore the print quality back to what you expect, there is a Deep Clean option as well on some cannons i belive this should not be run more than once within 10 - 15 minutes as it can cause damage to the print head.

if your still getting problems with the print quality most cartridge companys sell cleaning solutions designed to clean out blocked printer heads. this should sort it.

the most drastic solution would be to replace the head which is normally fairly easy to get online and quite cheap.

hope this helps.

My printer seems to have lines throughout the entire job i've tried everything to no avail, could it be the head is damaged or could it be the cutting strip platten

in the printer properties use the cleaning option there to clean the print head.If this fails you might want to try some Kleanex to clean the print head.
Good luck

Installeds a refilled colour cartridge and will work but printer says empt..may do damage. Lexmark x5450 colour cartridge # 33.

Using a refill for this printer will not "do damage." The damage they are referring to is if you continue printing with an empty cartridge you can damage the print head on the cartridge. Since you replace the print head every time you replace the cartridge, you never damage your printer.

My Lexmark z22 printer will not print corretly

“Lexmark does not support the refilling of its ink cartridges. Refilling the ink cartridges can cause them to leak, thus clogging or even damaging the print head. Any damage to your printer caused by refilled ink cartridges may not be covered under warranty”. Please use genuine Lexmark cartridges for best results.

Dell A960 AOI Printer problem

Have you reset the ink levels for your printer? Some printer software refers to it as that others ask if you have installed a new cartridge.

Do maintenance on the printer, such as clean heads, print test page, head alingment, etc and see if that fixes it. You can get to all these options through properties
