Question about Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) Console

1 Answer

I cannot get my media content from my pc to stream to my ps3

I have vindows vista home premium. It is a wireless connection. I can find my media server on the ps3 (although there is not subfolders or media listed). I believe all the settings needed to share media are enabled.

Have you given the PS3 access to the files?
You might try using simple center as an alternative.
a great resource for setting up your PS3 on your network is here:

What do i need to do or get in order to download movies or stream movies from my pc to my ps3?

For streaming movies from your pc to PS3 over cross cable or WiFi you can use hps3mediaserver http://ps3mediaserver.blogspot.com/ - though note that it can be tricky to set up and HD videos will stutter as the LAN connection you use probably won't be fast enough to handle the required data stream.

Just purchase ps3 with a major goal being to view

reset your network and revamp the pairing between the two units- also if your pc has blue tooth you can pair them directly usind a adhoc style private network that is more effective for streaming from your pc than using an internet capable network because there is less traffic and signal interuption. The files would stream better because not only is there no unwanted traffic but the network its self would be a dedicated link between your pc and your system. Here is a HOW TO LINK ( its for PC to PC but essentially thats all a ps3 is) Ive set mine up and am loving it! So much better than my wifi internet router setup! And Yes you can still access the internet via pc and ps3 using the wifi- and simutaniously use the adhoc bluetooth network with little to no interference or lag

Cant find a media server on my ps3

make sure your PC and PS3 are networked (you can do this via wireless but using the LAN cable is better if you want to watch films)

You need to set your PC up to be the media server. you will then be able to stream all you music and movies that are on your pc to your PS3

Upgrade your copy of windows media player to 11

once you have done this go to the libary icon. Select sharing and select share with other devices.

Then boot your ps3 up and search for media server

You should see a dialoge box on your telling you a new device want to access. Tell it yes. then you should be able to your view the entire libary.

To access your music etc you always need to make sure media player is running on your pc

Hope this helps.

My pc doesnt see my ps3 on the network and so i cant use the media server function...it simply says no media servers available.. os: vista ultimate useing wireless network and internet connection through...

you may need to plug your ps3 into the internet cable directly and wait for it to update it's system before that can work. Thats what I did and it works fine now.

Can not connect xbox to vista basic laptop (using an ethernet cable to connect console to pc) (pc is on wireless internet), have set media sharing on in Windows Media Player. Vista Basic does noy have...

If it doesnt have media center, just right click and share any folders you want to stream through your xbox.

Also might be useful to open file and media sharing in network settings.

DNS error when connecting PS3 to internet

you could try getting a wifi adapter and creating an access point, you can connect that way if your ps3 has wifi I have a laptop with windows XP Pro and have been trying that my desktop PC with Vista Home can see it.
MY Components:
-Desktop PC with Vista Home (Main PC, connected to Internet with Ethernet to a Linksys Wireless Router B and G).
-Get internet thru cable TV (broadband),from this cable modem plugs to router and from router to PC Vista(desktop)
-Linksys Wireless G/B Router
-G-Card for my Laptop Windows XP Pro and
-Playstation 3 capable of sharing info and use printer

At the moment all of them have internet w different IP's (000.000.0.001, 000.000.0.002,etc.). What I want to achieve is that I can use the Printer that is connected via USB to my PC Vista (desktop) and share files. Right now the only thing been able to do is that my PC Vista see my Laptop but Can't find my PC on my laptop. Anybody, Help?
-When I turn On my media sharing in my PS3, my internet on Laptop loses it while PS3 search and find, then, because laptop lost wireless, the PS3 looses the laptop and I get wireless back. I knowis a stupid setting but tired of workin back n forth. Thanks

PS3 WIRELESS CONNECTION

This code (80711008) is not reffered error code list
Try first to establish a success connection at a nearer distance. Your signal strength might not be strong enough to have a lasting connection

Ive got a 40gb ps3 and a bt home hub wireless router how do i connect ps3 to computer ps ps3 is upstairs and pc downstairs

look on the back of your home hub. there should be a Wireless Key in a Grey box. (BT Home Hub wireless settings)

note the wireless key.

go to your ps3. and turn it on log on ect. go to settings and down to network settings (right at bottom).

(Im not sure of the next section because im currently on a network but it should be an option to find network).

anyway you search for networks. should find your home hub.

keep going right untill you have to enter any settings. and write your WEP Key (Not WKA). (wireless key from back of router).

Unable to Play DivX encoded videos through media center extender (xbox360)

The media center does not currently use the codec to decode DiVX... but with all the upcoming changes to the xbox360 interface/ console / Marketplace I see Microsoft correcting this.

Hope this helps!

Xbox 360 modding

You cannot transfer files to the Xbox 360, you can only stream the material eg songs or videos through it. You can put the items you wish to view on a usb memory stick, but again you cannot save them to your XBox 360 only play direct from the device you use to store the videos or music. You will also need XP media centre to use the media extender software, or even better Vista premium, XP home or Pro will not share the material with XBox because it cannot use the extender software.
